I've been to coyote point but stayed on the left side shooting a pistol. On the right side do they have shooting benches you can sit at? Or is it just like the left side but with targets out to 100 yards?

coyote point range question re:right side

You sit and shoot thru a little port hole. Keep your muzzle thru the port when firing or you will get yelled at!I hate people that are full of hate.

Thanks for the info, having trouble picturing it. Do you like shooting rifles there? I usually head to chabot or richmond. But realized hey coyote point is just 20 minutes away. For some reason doesn't seem like many people's first choice for an outdoor range?sigpicOriginally posted by victor1echoHollywood is satan!!!!Comment

It is better now that they have a copy of the flow chart in the office so you can at least use that to show them if they are worried about your rifles. Otherwise it's just ok . . . the port holes suck, the lighting isn't great - I can barely see my front sight post there, & it's 100yd only. But it's 10 miles from my house and 10$ for up to 3 hours. Sometimes crowded, but people come and go so a spot usually opens up soon. When you walk up and the guy asks what you are shooting, just tell him the caliber.I hate people that are full of hate.

Are they oll friendly now? I know before, they didn't allow oll rifles. If you brought a AR type rifle, they would ask for the registration documents. Anyone shoot OLL's there recently?Comment

I shot my BB AR15, SKS, M38, and M1 Garand there with no hassles. There was also another CGner there with a midlength AR, giselle DMR trigger, and a elcan spectre DR sight! That was very fun to shoot.
That was back in the summer, I haven't really gone back bc of work and school during their hours.
The reasoning for shooting sitting down only has something to do with being in the vicinity of the airport IIRC (I asked the RO).Last edited by doughboy334; 04-16-2010, 3:59 PM.sigpic

My buddy and I recently went shooting and he shot corrosive yugo ammo through his Mosin and figured he could just piss in the barrel and call it a day. Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.Comment

I'm a member at Coyote Point and we're quite OLL friendly. For me, it's on the way home from work and simply a convenient place to practice regularly. Since it's not an indoor range and no centerfire pistols are allowed, the crowd tends to lean more towards hunters vs. folks bringing their ghetto blasters.
I joined ~2.5 years ago and even then most members knew about OLL legality. As long as it's legal and you can articulate to a cop (many do frequent the place to shoot and I've seen them check out other people shooting) why it's legal, most members don't care. It also helps to not cop an attitude towards the RSOs because you must understand that we get paid $0 to collect your money and deal with the occasional newbie (working one night a month is part of the membership duties).
The place is old and a bit run down so the only guns we really don't like on the line are 50cal rifles. The members doing RSO duty might not like you shooting it because of the damned shockwave it creates rattles off some of the worn out sound insulation in front of the muzzle "portholes." The last time I was there and some member's grandson brought his 50cal (I guess that's why the RSO allowed him to shoot), the blast knocked a glass bulb near the firing line down. Definitely a bit annoying.
The only reason the place is still open is because the San Mateo Sherriff's office needs a place to practice. Since San Matero County is essentially broke (they are one of the counties that lost the most money in the economic downturn due to bad investments), there's $0 cash to upgrade the place....

I went to Coyote Point recently to shoot rifles and I won't go back. Although it's relatively close and convenient, I'd rather drive farther to go to a better range.
The portholes are terrible. They are too low and the stools are not adjustable so I left with a sore neck. And I'm not even that tall.
The shooting benches aren't set up to be lefty friendly. To shoot left-handed you have to remove the brass screen (which is bolted to the table) and then of course the guy to your right will complain that you're hitting him with your brass.
Target setup is awful. Bring your own stapler because the metal clamps they give you to attach your cardboard and target to to the stands are all shot up and have sharp edges everywhere. Major safety hazard. For what they probably spend on clamps, they could buy some staplers. Oh, and the cardboard was all shot to bits.
100 yards only. I'm sure there's a good reason for this but from a shooter's perspective it doesn't make a lot of sense (much like the portholes).
As the evening wore on, the RSOs stopped coming out of their shack to take a careful look downrange before clearing the line to begin firing. Instead of looking they'd just ask, "Is everyone back from downrange" over the PA. It had gotten very dark, so hearing this when we were still 50 yards downrange didn't give me a great feeling. My buddy and I yelled and waved our hands as we high-tailed it back to the line but I wasn't sure the RSOs would even hear us.Comment

went there a month ago with my noveske carbine. i tell the man im shooting ar15. he asks legal or illegal, i say BUllet button.
