    What is this armor worth?

My buddy's friend is interested in a trade with me and this is what he has to offer. He says its level IV kevlar plates and an Interceptor vest. The Interceptor vest doesn't look like the ones that came up on a google search. Just want to know what its worth so I know what I'm trading for. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the reply! Anybody have an idea of what kind of vest that is?

I've never seen that vest before, it's not GI and definitely not an IBA. Those plates look like SAPIs inserts and are ceramic backed by spectra (material harder than kevlar). They are designed for single shot high velocity rounds that just tear through kevlar like it's butter. They are level III by itself and level IV if underneath a kevlar vest. I wouldn't pay a dime unless I know exactly where it came from (lots of counterfeits out there) and your friend doesn't seem like he knows what he's talking about.

you may wnat to check the plates to see if they are serialized or not...

some kid was busted selling stolen plates at my buddy's airsoft shop...not fun for him!

yeah thats what i'm worried about. One other friend just told me that it was a plate carrier vest with no armor on it and definitely not IBA. I'm just going to have to take a closer look at it in person.

GI stuff usually have a 13 digit Nato Stock Number (NSN) on them in the following format:

              ABCD-EF-GHI-JKLM

ABCD = Federal Supply Class, should be 8470 for "personal armor"
EF = Country code, should be 00 or 01 for US made
GHI-JKLM = National Item Indentification Number (NIIN), unique for each item

Make sure these items have 'em if you want to check authenticity.

You'll need to get those x-rayed to make sure there's no cracks, which could make it fail to stop a round.

Yea...pretty much. All that duct tape on it is suspicious too. That's why I would never buy these used. If SAPIs were used properly, they would never get torn up (only a little bit at the corners) like that since it's supposed to be carried inside a vest.

Those plates if brand new would be around $400 for the set depending if they were ceramic or steel or another fancy material. Check out www.bulletproofme.com

My ceramic's brand new a couple of years ago were $400 out the door.

This is what the IBA I wore in 05 at Fort Benning looked like.

I know they have different shells and covers for them like ACU and Tri-Color Desert. However that picture of the vest you have is NOT a traditional IBA. Most of the real GI stuff I've seen doesn't have zippers. Personally I wouldn't want my ballistic vest to have a zipper, because they break easy. Is it possible it is a real GI vest? maybe, but I doubt it. Maybe those more versed in tactical gear could chime in...

I personally wouldn't pay more then about $150 for that set.

If you want a plate carrier or an IBA, go over to www.bulletproofme.com and pick up the real deal, brand new.

Looks more and more like its not worth it to mess around and trade with this guy. I'll have a look at this stuff for the hell of it though and try to see what it really is.

Looks like Gen1 Predator from Diamondback Tactical. Go look at their clearance section. Went for $550 back in the day, now new for $150.

All in all its subjective. Comes down to what do you want it for? Mil Sim? Then sure, they will have the weight and shape and look.

Planning on freelance in the sandbox? Think more than twice about this gear.

Real Interceptors are being replaced fast, they will be a dime a dozen soon. That said, they suck, dont bother

isn't that the kind of stuff the dept. of correction uses?
