UOC in state parks?

Hey im going hiking in a State Park pretty soon, i read the website and it says NO LOADED GUNS OR HUNTING.

Im pretty paranoid about mountain lions so i can UOC right? I want to have a gun on me just in case...never know when you might stumble upon a cougar or some mexican pot farmers...

UOC in a state park is, pretty much certainly, going to gain the attention of the rangers.

i dont get it, i read the website. it said firearms prohibited but said that UOC is legal in them, if you are a licensed hunter or fisherman traveling to or from an expedition.

the state park has no legal hunting, but if i kept the firearm unloaded and the magazine seperate it should be ok?

what if a mountain lion attacks me im supposed to wrestle him with my bare hands?

I know several rangers personally and professionally and to my understanding there is no OC, loaded or unloaded, in California State Parks. Your firearm has to be unloaded and cased or otherwise secured. The hunting and fishing language would be if you were doing so at some land near, not on, the state park you are camped at. You can keep your firearm at your campsite... unloaded and cased or secured and remove it to take it to and from where you are hunting or fishing. Once you return to your campsite, unload and back in the case it goes. There is a school of thought that you can keep your firearm accessible while in your tent, it being a temporary domicile, but I've never seen that tested. Bottom line I wouldn't wander around the campground or the hiking trails UOC.

If you run into a lion while hiking in a state park, follow all the guidelines on how to scare it away and carry a big knife. But if you OC in a state park and the ranger sees you, in most cases you are going to get cited and might get your firearm seized.

^thats some insane restrictive laws...unbelievable. welp i guess il carry it in my backpack unloaded and cased. so much for feeling safe while hiking...
