    Bushnell Trophy red dot conversion

This is the product of a long weekend (thank you Ceaser Chavez), too much alcohol, and boredom.

I bought this red dot to use on a 22 but the button batteries don't last long enough for my taste. Total cost of the project was 2.99 for a flashlight holder from Fry's Electronics. Every thing else I had laying around; wire, scope, cheapy mount taken from another scope, cork from a wine bottle, aluminum disposable baking pan, black spray paint, and pink flashlight that the wife doesn't use anymore.

So far it's been running strong for 24 hours on a set of AA's.

what is the life span of the button batteries in that red dot? i have to assume something like 250-400 hours?

what do you anticipate it to be with that flashlight holder/AA battery conversion?

seems like a lot of weight and increased possibilty of failure. But then again, its only going on a .22lr, so no big deal.

I'm not sure what the button battery life is. I've just been to the range several times when I forgot to bring along a new battery and the reticle was so dim that I couldn't see it in day light.

I figure that this conversion maybe prone to failure, especially if I snag the wire on something and rip it out. I didn't make any permanent alterations to the scope. I called Bushnell and told them I lost the battery cover. They sent me a new one. So I drilled the hole for the wires in the extra one that I had. I can put the regular battery cover back on with a button battery for actual hunting.

I'm going to let it run on two new AA batteries until they run out to see what the battery life is. It should be quite a long time considering the extra power two AA's would have over a button battery.
