Now here's a unique "just cause" for a CA CCW

Was working on a customer's truck yesterday and noticed some firearm things in the cab. Mentioned it to my GF who is service advisor at our dealership. When the cust came to pick it up today she struck up a conversation with him about guns - as she frequently does up here. It came out he had a CCW and she asked what he gave for the reason.

This is where it gets good.

Seems he's a freelance physist/engineer working on a "hovercraft" that uses a "force field" (his words) to keep it off the ground. Said he has some kind of funding/grant from the feds for this. Apparently he convinced the Sheriff that "someone" was out to steal his work/research, and was able to provide some kind of documentation backing up his claim.

    CCW permit was granted.

So let's see, I'm involved with the federal government (I have a C&R FFL), and people are constantly after what I have (I get emails asking if I want to sell my M41b). Think I could get a CCW based on that?

As good a reason as any!
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

How's it going Pthfndr? Been a while since I've been down to ER&GC. Still keep my membership.

I wonder if the permit dries up when the grant dries up?

Any job where you have to transport sensitive goods and/or valuable goods is good enough.

Just say you do mobile PC repair in some shady areas. Say you work at a gun shop and are easy prey when leaving work at night with potential of the whole store being robbed by you leaving and getting robbed.

I mean... even if you work in construction... you could say 'i have recently been robbed and a few other co-workers have been robbed by people trying to steal the copper while i deliver it'

Too bad they don't have open carry rifle permits. Walk around with an AK47 on yer back. Nobody dare bother you.

I doubt it was issued by LA county sherriff. Just cause is documented evidence of someone actually trying to get you...an un-specified threat is not good enough just cause.

              im in la county,

have my own biz where can deal with lots of cash
have merchandise that people steal everyday (havent from me yet),and transport my self too, and have had neighbors broken into
people think I have way more money than I do, (not that i tell them that I do)
my biz is located in a not so great area (not by choice )

I know that LASD will not issue a CCW permit, as that by itself is not "a good reason" in their eyes

luckily I have an OG reformed ex-Blood that has a lot of respect in the region that works for me, if not who knows what could have happendby now.

Yeah, right..... Go try to get your CCW in LA county with any one of the reasons you've listed and see where you get with your application.

The only eligible gun owners that are able to get a CCW in LA are LEOs and the "elite". That dude is a Federal physicist for pete's sake.

You know from the stats I don't think it's impossible for a regular old joe to get a CCW in LA county. The biggest obstacle is hiring an attorney and having the attorney deal with the application, just cause, etc.

                          That won't work in SCCO.

To become one of the quick "ELITES" in getting a CCW from LASD donate $10K to $15K to the sheriffs' election funds.
