    Background check information

I have a friend who's wondering if they can own a firearm but they are on a tight budget. I'm not familiar with the California background check but I know everyone here should be. I don't want to get into too much detail but I'd like to know what would DISQUALIFY my friend from legally owning firearms in California.

Conviction of a felony(with smome guidelines I think), restraint orders, outstanding traffic tickets(are mentioned), dishonorable discharge from Mil(IDK why). Any convictions of domestic violence, parole, drug habbit, certain misdemeanors, among some other things im probably forgetting. If you know a basic history of the persons track record, this is an easy one...lol.

I didn't want to poke and prod too much into their personal life at that moment but I've been told before what it was just forgot since it's really not too important in knowing them. Wasn't murder or anything that would personally bother me and it happened a number of years ago.

You friend can do the Personal Firearms Eligibility Check (PFEC). All you do is mail the form to the CA DOJ, with a copy of your driver's license, a check for $20 and a thumbprint.

Once they receive your application, then they will go through a similar background check like on the 4473 form. They will check state/federal databases, and send you the results.

Thanks. This is helpful. I'll have to look up some of the exceptions.

I knew about the $20 check but then you get it notarized so you might as well just do it at the gun shop. I was looking for something to save $35.
