Just got into the black and started putting money away. . . have you hugged your Smith and Wesson stock lately? I'm a rank newbie, but have been smiling at my meager SWHC stock this week.

I'm surprised there weren't more options to invest in for guns. . . I wasn't going to buy Ruger from principal (AW ban support) so Smith and Wesson it was

I invested in SHWC early this year, so far it's up 20% for me in a little under 3 months. Pretty good return. Now if only they get a big military contract....Wow that stock will shoot up....

Did I mention that contract Beretta has with the Army runs out this year and one of the big contenders is the S&W MP handguns.....

You get into the stock market very precariously. . . the information is like drinking out of a fire hose for a market newbie like me But I'm a learner, and I enjoy looking at endless information and speculation.

Actually, the mechanics of buying stocks is not hard at all. I signed up for an account at www.scottrade.com . There are different types for different needs. I opened a normal joint trading account with my wife and a Roth IRA retirement fund (if you're in certain common tax brackets, you can contribute $5000 per year to these). The Roth IRA comes out of your taxed income, but on the way out when you're 65, it is not taxed.

Basically, you set up the account on the internet which is free, give them money (check or electronic transfer) to fire up the account, wait a couple days for the money to clear and show up on online account, and you're good to go. They charge you $7 every time you make a transaction (buy or sell something) whether it's 1 share or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 shares.. . for Scottrade, some mutual funds are free if you hold onto them for more than 180 days.

Once you have your account set up, you just point and click to move your money around almost in real time. It's like magic. You can make it grow or you can make it disappear. . .. poof!

I got confused and just picked one that a friend recommended I look into. . . all of the online brokers say they're #1. Only other comparison I have is when my parents needed help setting up their lightly used www.schwab.com account. And I didn't like it. I see no reason Scottrade won't function just fine for everything I need to do.
