Someone explain rebuild magazines to me

I don't know anything about the legality of rebuild magazines with +10 capacity. Can I buy it from another gun owner through private transfer?

Basically IF you have owned complete hi cap mags BEFORE the 2000 assault weapon ban aka AWB then you can legally purchase a rebuild kit to repair/fix your existing hi cap mags you cannot purchase rebuild kits to maake/manufacture NEW mags from the kits
if you make new mags from the rebuildkits then that violates the law
you cannot sell or trade hi cap mags in California you can sell kits but since you did t own them you can't legally assemble them

      Sure - parts is parts.

But don't assemble the kit into a NEW large-capacity magazine inside California.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Only been discussed about 1000 times. Mags cannot be transferred, sold, bought, given, made, or imported.

If you have mags that you owned before 12/31/99 then you can legally rebuild those mags with new components.

that was my first impression. I am curious to why people list their high capacity magazine along with their guns in the private sales forums. thanks for clearing up

You can use the hi cap mags as long as they have been modified to hold 10 or fewer rounds.

so even if you didnt own high cap mags before the AWB, can you still buy rebuild kits and keep them as long as you don't put them together???

They would just be parts so in theory you could but I cant see that you would want to. Unless you're banking on the fact that they will become legal or that you will move/travel out of state.
