Using a shortened grip for a featurless OLL build

I would like to build an OLL without a BB, I plan to cut down an A2 grip JUST enough that it will not qualify as a "pistol grip" but I can't seem to find definitive information on this approach and I would like to see if this has been done here. It will probably have to be so short that it will feel like crap and I'll end up with a hammerhead grip or a U15 stock but I need to try it.
Screw the environment! The sooner we trash this place the sooner we will have the political will to explore space and conquer the known universe, spreading like locust we will plunder, crush new enemies, take their women and if we are lucky, we shall meet our fate on the battlefield.

Cut it at or above the trigger guard. Do not let it protude below the action.

yes, it has been done here before. That was the method used in the beginning to make a featureless build, before the Monsterman grip came out. Look for SRB, spring retainer bracket as one option.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Is there any official document from the CA DOJ offering clarity on the subject?
I would have liked to try and accomplish at least a one finger grip.

          ke6guj is correct.

I have a couple SRB's lying around. One is still on my rifle.

It seems the DOJ rarely (very rarely) gives anything in writing.

I believe this is possible even with a stubby grip cut at the level with the trigger guard; am I missing something?
Starve the beast, move to a free state.

This is why a lot of people(myself included) opted to go for the SRB. There is no way it could be considered a grip. I realize it is absurd to consider a cut off grip the same thing as a "pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon", but you can never be too safe when it comes to california LE.

A one finger grip on something protuding conspicuously below the action could get you free room and board for several years. If it's not "protuding conspicuously below the action", it's OK. I can wrap my hand around many of the stocks on my more traditional long guns.

It's a shame there is nothing in writing from the DOJ.

I ran my rifle like that for a couple of years. Worked fine.

I have an SRB if you want it. Send me a PM and I'll send it your way.

Just so you know, an SRB is pretty much exactly what you are doing with your grip by shaving it down. Its made out of lightweight metal, is colored black, and has never existed as a pistol grip. If I were you I'd use the SRB. It looks like he's offering it to you for free. Thats pretty nice of him, I'd jump on the offer.

Hey Hopi, could you bring your SRB up to the BP this weekend. I'd like to give it a try for a few rounds. After that, I'll give it back so that Faust can have it if he changes his mind.
