Range suggestion for OC AR n00bs?

    Greetings all.

Me and my wife have been doing a lot of indoor pistol shooting over the last few years and about twice a year we take a vacation that allows us to take our rimfire rifles and rim/center-fire pistols to a outdoor range (SLOSA), but I recently finished a AR build (I got in on the KD lower group buy a while back) and we want to go shoot the sucker. We are in Huntington Beach...where is the best place we can go to shoot the AR? I will need to take a day off from work to go shooting so I want to make it worth our time. We both have very limited experience with center-fire rifles so we would really like a 'friendly' range in case we need advice. Any suggestions? Will will be going on a Wed or Thur if that factors in. We just want a good experience with no hassles. Thanks for any advice.

BTW, AR is here (had to share):

Burro canyon is the closest real outdoor range.

If you don't mind an indoor range, try On-Target in Laguna Niguel. They allow you to shoot your centerfire rifles if you've taken their "centerfire rifle class", which costs $20 on a Sunday morning, or you can call in and ask if they will do the class for you that day individually. It's usually not a problem for them to do that. When they did the "rifle class" for me, all they did was check to see that I knew how to operate my weapon safely, and test you on basic gun safety.

I've had a couple good experiences out at Lytle Creek the last two weekends. It's a good hour's drive but the folks working there are friendly and it's nice to get out of town a little ways, IMHO.

I vote ASR. Very nice place with strict RO's to keep things safe. Rifle range 25-600yds. Separate handgun gallery out to 100yds. Clay pigeon shotgun area. And a hotdog vendor. 45 minutes from HB. As for "friendly", there's always shooters next to you that can probably help you out and the RO's are everywhere so you can ask them too. Oh and the Ranch Side Cafe on the corner of Foothill Blvd and Osborne St. has some good food too.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

ASR is probably the nicest, but Burro will be closest for you.

                        What do you mean?

They just need to be transported in a locked container. The range will allow them.

Also, they can only be lent to those over the age of 18, and only in your immediate presence.

Bring those 30 rounders and ROCK THOSE SUCKERS!

Join the west end gun club and they give u a security code to the range and you can go and shoot 24/7 day or night
