Hi All,
I am moving to CA in May (East SF Bay area). I've done my homework with the help of this and other forums but I just want to do a final check I understand everything correctly before I drive to our new life. By my understanding :
1. I simply bring my shotguns and bolt action rifles with me. No transportation requirements. No registration required.
2. My 1911 handgun has to be transported unloaded in a locked container. I register within 60 days and it is legal as it is under 10 rounds mag capacity (it's also on the roster).
3. My S&W M&P15 AR will come with me with all mags already permanently limited to 10 round capacity and a bullet button already fitted. Any other modifications are irrelevant as long as barrel length and overall length are adhered to.
What I can't find is the requirements for transportation and registration of the AR. I am particulary concerned about ensuring I transport it properly. Also, if it has a 10 round mag which can only be removed by way of a tool does that mean it is treated like a bolt action rifle, i.e. no registration requirements? Any specific transportation requirements? Any ammo transportation restrictions?
Many thanks
David
