My parents are in the other country. Next time when they come to visit us, I will invite them to go shooting.

As for my just-born son, he will never have anti-gun parents.

My dad was seriously pro-gun, we had a large collection growing up. However, my mom was always scared of guns, and after he passed away she really wanted nothing to do with them. But my mom doesn't really want to have a whole lot to do with me anymore either, so I guess that's just as well.

My wife was not raised with guns, and was a little afraid of them at first, but after I took her shooting a couple of times she really got into it. Now I'm going to have to spring for a nice O/U for her to shoot sporting clays with. So I guess you have to be careful what you wish for.

My wife's family is not crazy about guns, but they also don't interfere with us either. We would be happier if they would accept us being shooters, and they would be happier if we wouldn't have guns around the house, so we just have to agree to disagree.
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

My mom used to believe all the crap the anti's fed through the news (guns in the house always result in killing family members, etc), so we never had one when I was growing up.

Then Katrina hit. She wasn't around then, but she DID pay attention to the news. Then I bought them a pair of NRA memberships, and they actually read the magazines. Those two factors changed her and Dad more than anything else.

Now Mom has a drop-mag M4gery up in her closet in Washington, with a pair of C-Products 30rd mags and 60rds of premium Federal ammo.

And my dad wants to avoid having anything that's likely to "raise eyebrows", but I recently got him to agree to let me build him a Saiga, since it looks like a normal "hunting rifle"... AND gift him a CZ-40P.

Of course, once the house up in WA sells, Dad'll have access to the M4gery too.

So far I converted my wife, father in law, and sister in law to going shooting with me. My wife bought her first rifle, and father in law is looking at shotguns. Here's how I did it:

Started by casually bringing up the sporting events (ie. I'm going to a match on sunday, I'm hoping to get 10 rounds in the center). Showed them I'm interested in guns for sport, that they're fun and safe in my possesion.

Moved on to inviting them to come watch me shoot (just me at a private range with no other guns going off, kept it real low key and casual). Then asked if they'd like to try a few rounds. At first they said no, but when they saw how much fun I was having, it was only a matter of time.

I didn't start by telling them about self-defense or SHTF, because to most anti-gun people, both of those subject will just cause a debate. After I got them to go shooting with me, I started talking about the use for a pistol (self defense) and now they are getting used to the idea.

          hope this helps
I always try to show my parents how much fun shooting sports can be and have been trying to get them to the range but my parents wont go. My sister wont go either and is terrified of them. My brother finally went but he is also going to the FBI acadamy and wanted to learn about guns before he went in. I dont bring up the SHTF conversations they only come up when someone gets in the news gets in trouble with a gun and then they start hammering me with all the anti crap, I usally just walk away from it cause I dont want to argue with them.

I also allways give them some of the game meat after a hunt

well, according to the Bradies, the majority of elected SHeriffs of California and the Antis, they can and thus you don't need guns.

My mom used to be anti-gun, but I grew up with firearms everywhere, so I guess my mom got used to it, but would not think of a firearm for self-defense. Until my Auntie was murdered in the Philippines. After that she would be the first person in the room to suggest shooting somebody on-site in self-defense or if there is a threat.
We all agree of course, and now she's going to the range with my dad and practice on his .45
