    custom made lamp?

i have 105mm artillery shell casing that i am going to turn into a lamp with a camo lampshade on a wooden base. here is my question, i want to run the power cord threw the primer hole and out of the bottom of the wood but the primer is live. how should i go about getting it out i.e strike it and fire it then drill it out or what? it's a pretty good size primer and might make a good bang by itself. i also was thinking of making a off and on swtch out of a dummy grenade. i know wrong forum ,my bad,but what do you think?

That primer might have enough explosive power as some small arm cartridge.

I wouldn't hit it personally. Maybe pour some lighter fluid inside and run a fuse then light it at safe place from safe distance.

Or shoot the primer with 22 LR from distance. You get to dispose a live primer and punch a hole at same time.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

You can correct my spelling and grammar error anytime.
I welcome it. How else would I learn.

Yeah I wouldn't hit the primer myself either... pay some guy who doesn't know much about guns $10 to do it for you.

I think Guns R Tools has good advice. Good luck with your shell lamp.

That primer is about like a 38 special blank. If you whack it without a breech behind it you will have a very high speed case coming at you. That would be one of those bright white flash of enlightenment moments about never doing that again.

                I like it...

this reminds me of "the leg lamp" from 'A Christmas Story'...remember? You'll shoot your eye out!

                Hey OP,
what kind of wood are you planning to use for the base..?

not really positive on live ordinance...wouldnt a light machine oil poured into primer and let sit for a few days , defuse same??? works on rifle and pistol primers...just a thought..

Are there two little "holes" or "indentations" either side of the primer?

if you want it to sit flat how can you have the cord come out the primer hole drill a hole in the side and connect the cord through like this thing on my vcr

that you still need some type of cap on the top to mount the threaded rod that holds the lamp parts

i would probably use this metal ceiling light fixture piece with the ends bent to fit inside the neck and drill holes in the case for screws to mount it

i'm going to use a piece of oak and drill the hole for the cord and router out the underside for the cord to lay in. the cord will simply come out at the edge of the wood. i have all of the lamp parts from an old lamp that my wife was going to throw away.

Most shells are re-usable which means the primers are replaceable with a special tool. Or you can use a transfer punch to unscrew it.

Cant you pour some oil in the primer to make it inert?
