I think its cheaper then dirt that has airtight bags u can put ur rifles and pistols in. just oil them up and put them in and get the air out. that will keep the rest off and the guns nice. if u go to ar15 and post in the survival part of there web site those guys have all kinds of ideas for long term storage

brownells, midway, sportsmansguide all carry gunsocks, long grey silicone treated cloth socks for $2 ea in a pack of 5 or something close to that. I bought a ton of the thigns as cheap insurance against rust.

I just lube the heck out of the gun and stuff it in the sock. Never had a problem even by salty sea areas.

Handguns should be OK if oiled well just like the rifle. The problem is shooting it then throwing it in its case and NOT cleaning it. The high temp will cause condensation and rust it possibly if you use your cars A/C. As long as the gun is room temp when its cleaned, lubed and put back there should be no problem.

If you aren't using a safe, also use a trigger or the long cable locks. As a precaution, those of us with too many rifles to put in a safe, also remove bolts and bolt carriers so if the rifles are stolen they will be missing a key part for at least a while so hopefully no crime can be used with them. But thats TX, not to sure about CA laws.

Maybe try putting your item in one of those silicone treated socks, then using the "Seal a meal" thing to take out the air and moisture?

Another forum member suggested using Heat pad that is activated by oxygen.
Like pocket heat. It will remove oxygen from sealed container.
                    No oxygen = no rust.

                      The best?

A light coat of RIG (rust inhibiting grease) and a silicone gun sock.

Long term storage? If you have a wood stock, remove all the metal and cover it in grease or cosmoline and then seal-a-meal them in plastic. Otherwise break it down into components and store in grease or cosmoline and seal away.
