Midwest Ind. Out of Spec AK Hand Guard, (Lower Rails), Return

Those of you that have purchased Midwest Industries AK Hand Guards: http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/...ategory_id=241 may have noticed that accessories may not fit well or at all on the bottom, left and right rails. The representative I spoke to confirmed that there was a bad run and that numerous rails were sold before they became aware of the out of spec, (over-sized), rails. The sales representatives instructions were/are to go to:

Shop firearms, accessories, and more at Midwest Industries, Inc. — all made with the American quality you expect and deserve.

. . . and fill out the information in the "Send us an Order Question Email " section. If you have a Midwest Ind. invoice number then reference it.

The rep stated that the company did not want anyone to incur any costs and that once the new units were shipped to their respective reciptiants, the out of spec units should be returned to them. I am assuming that a return authorization and shipping label will be sent with the replacement units to facilitate this.

So there you have it. Midwest Ind. has identified the problem and is taking action to correct it. Good on them.

It is more about not being able to mount accessories on the three over-sized rails. Not so concerned about an "in-spec" AK so much as the accessory Rails need to adhere to a certain tolerance or else they loose their purpose.

I wonder if this could be the same problem that I have with my MI T9 free float handguard for my AR that I built last fall. I tried to slide my BUIS onto it and it would not fit. I guess I need to contact MI and see what they say.

Do it. I came across this problem in a couple other forums some time ago but gave no thought to it until recently. If Midwest Ind. is aware of the problem they will fix it. Don't be stuck with a product that is not 100%. Especially when it can be fixed free of cost.

I just wanted to give an update, I sent my T9 hand guard back to MI. The first one they sent out was the wrong length, but I returned that and they finally sent the right one, with the correct rail specs.

So all in all I'm happy with my new hand guard, and MI took care of the problem with great customer service.
