Help Me Spend a $1000 on guns

I'm getting some money back on my taxes and decided to spend it to fill out my collection for this year. I was looking for suggestions on what combination of rilfes I could select that would be under a $1,000 and would include of some of the following:

    Lever action .22
    Bolt action .22
    Bolt action .308 or 30-06
    7.62X39 Saiga
    Mini-14

I have enough AR's and pistols for now so I'm looking to stock up on rifles.

    Any thoughts?

Also, I'm looking for a shop in the Inland Empire (Riverside & San Bernardino) or Orange County where I could pick up a majority or even all of the rifles I pick so I don't have to drive around to multiple shops. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I'd go with a 7.62x39 Saiga and a bolt action .308 - like a Savage or Remmy 700. The Saiga is a cheap, fun gun to shoot and you can convert to a "true AK" down the road if you get bored with it. The .308 will be fun to take your time with and learn how to shoot long distances... hopefully you already have some glass for the .308 though, that could kick it up another $1000+ right there!

can't go wrong with the saiga in 7.62x39 for sure. As for a lever .22 see if you can find a browning lever .22 they're great shooters and lot's of fun. My dad bought me mine back in the 80's so I'm not sure about price wise for them or you could always go with a Henry lever .22 that would be brand new!

My vote would be a large caliber rifle if you don't own one. 30-06, .308, 300 win mag, ect...... Personally I like the 300 win mag, but it is expensive to shoot, 30-06 and .308 can be found almost everywhere, on any ammo shelf, in any gun store across America, but even that is not cheap to shoot.

I wanted to thank everyone for the replies so far. Just for your information, here is what I own already so if you see anything else I'm missing, please let me know:

          2 AR-15
          AR-22 (Tac Sol Upper)
          10/22
          Benelli Supernova Tactial
          Ithaca 12 gauge
          Springfield XD
          Smith & Wesson M&P 9
          Ruger MKIII .22
          Dan Wesson .357

I'm clearly deficient in terms of a large caliber rifle.

I'm also planning on picking up a CMP Garand, M1 Carbine and beater M44 for playing later this year.

Anything large caliber that you're going to want to shoot over long distances and you should probably include a scope in the price. If you're looking for just a fun rifle to go out with, go with the Garand like you were planning and pick up an SKS too. Spend the rest on ammo=)

Another vote here for a bolt action 308 or 30-06 (308 preferred) and the Saiga 7.62x39; those two will add considerable utility to your existing inventory.

Get a Marlin 39A or a Savage MkII, scope it out if you want, spend the rest on ammo. Enjoy shooting.

If you get a centerfire rifle and put glass on it you will have spent your $1k and you won't even have ammo yet.

                Thats what I would do.

For those of you curious, the reason why I'm not including ammo or a scope is that my wife doesn't seem to notice when I get ammo or firearms accessories. She does notice when I buy guns and always asks me why I need more guns. I usually buy them in groups for that reason.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm definitely looking into a Saiga and Remington/Savage in .308 or 30-06.

lets see... how about an older HK Benelli Super 90? i know, not a rifle but let's spend our rifle money on that old Benelli! yea, that's the ticket. you know, the one with the factory extended tube; yea, that one. well then geez, put some RIFLE sights on it then! ok then ask Black Majik, he's got the corner on class in these parts and won't steer you wrong.... have fun.

How about a tactical shotgun ? Buy a regular 870 and made it your goal to buy as many after market parts at possible to make it tacti-cool.
Example; surefire tactical light forend , knox stock , a ghost ring sights....

                          Well how about it?

$1000 in ammo would be a better investment but, you can never go wrong with a .22 rifle.
