Shooting gloves

Like many folks my age, I have arthritis in my hands and wrists, among other areas. The question is: Do pistol "shooting gloves" help in absorbing some "shock" or do they just get in the way? I've seen several types on the Net, but don't know anyone that actually uses them. Fingerless, padded/unpadded, etc. Thank you for any feedback, it is appreciated.

I've used one for long sessions with BIG handguns. . .think .454 .500 .30/06 contender, that sort of thing. The sorbothane helps take some of the sting out of the recoil, although I think some of the new recoil tamer type grips do an admirable job. Doesn't hurt to try one. I'd go fingerless.

It's been so long ago that I've used them I would hate to mention any names because there is probably some better stuff out there than what I have used. I think as long as you get one that's fingerless with a sorbothane palm it should serve you well. I actually used an old pair of bicycle gloves with mesh backs and sorbothane padded palms and they worked well for me.

Pro-Aim, PAST, and Uncle Mike's might deserve a look, and Midway and Cabelas have gloves advertised on their sites as well. You might also look at anti-vibration gloves that construction and industrial workers use for things like air chisels and palm nailers. And like me, padded bicycle gloves may be the ticket. You may have to try more than one type to get what you are looking for.
