Rifle open carry?

This is just a question out of curiousity not because I'm planning on doing it but can u open carry say an ar15 on a sling with mags on the hip? Or any rifle for that matter ..just wondering what the law is on something like that

They discussed open carry of rifles here. Yes it is legal. You may even conceal the rifle because it is not considered "concealable upon the person". Legal, yes. As far as good idea...

I would only do it while on a hike or camping or something, or somewhere where you know people will not really care (I found a town in Arizona like this, but we are talking about CA). Otherwise it seems like too much trouble to me, not to mention unnecessary (although I can see some reasons why it might not be).

Parker Dam. Had to walk a few blocks to a place where I could get on a trail to a spot where I could shoot with my friends. Myself and my friends carried rifles and wore pistols openly. Cops (the rare ones we saw) could care less, and the mayor (who apparently is also the local CLEO) said he had a complaint about us shooting, but told us not to worry, because he is in charge and could not give a damn, and to have fun shooting. Sometimes we all piled onto a golf cart (which we struggled to keep running because the wires to the battery kept melting) with our rifles and shotguns; a bunch went into a spot meant for golf clubs at the back, with two guys inside and three or four hanging off the back and the sides, with rifles slung. It was quite a sight, especially when we stated offroading in a golf cart; at one point, to get around rubble, we had to go upt a trail angled so steeply that the cart would tip over to the left; but we hung off the right side and the cart just made it through. Best vacation ever (open carried in Havasu City, too, pistols only). Where I was staying, you could see California across the river, one bank free, the other not. Being on the free side was refreshing.

Thanks a lot for the info and yeah you won't see me walking around town with an ar slung to my back but it's nice to know I can haha ..
