Ranges in LA for abnormal rifles?

So I am looking into getting an older wood bolt action rifle (specifically a Mk3 SMLE) and it uses English 303 ammo, which I was assured was easy enough to find in comparison to some others (6mm?).

My question is does anyone know of a range in Los Angeles area that would allow this ammo type in the stalls? Or, in your opinion is it even worth getting this type of rifle at all? Should I just save up for a newer .308?

    Thanks!

Maybe I'm missing something, but why wouldn't a range allow you to fire .303?

I think he's concerned about magnetic metal-free ammo, whether core or casing. In most ranges, a magnet attraction = a big no.

            Ah

Thanks for the responses guys...I am a gun/gun range noob and just don't have enough experience yet in what is acceptable/allowed around here.

Yes its partly the magnetic ammo, but I wasn't sure about carry-in protocol as far as what you can just bring in to shoot...they seemed pretty specific and restrictive at least in the few i've been to thus far.

            I appreciate it!

if you're unsure about a range, or never been there, take a look around and talk to someone that works there, thats what i usually do, they'll tell you what they will and will not allow. this isn't a full proof way of going because somtimes you get the person thats not completely in the know, like i did last time out, and they'll sometimes leave out little things but for the most part you'll get the idea pretty quick whats ok and whats not.

Just about any outdoor range is going to let you shoot .303. Los Angeles Gun Club will let you go indoor and shoot their rounds. Not sure about any other ranges in LA.

Burro Canyon or Los Angeles Range are the best options for rifles.

Give a few of them a call and ask if they allow certain ammos in their range. That's what i do

The .303 Brit round is hardly abnormal!!!
Buck up, by some range-allowed ammo and get out there.

I think OP might be a little worried about the rifle being a C&R rifle. I used to have reserves about firing old WW2 era rifles, but after a little bit of research, I realized they were perfectly safe and super fun to shoot.

Get the SMLE, you can shoot it at almost any outdoor range provided you follow their ammo restrictions.

Yeah, shooting old milsurp rifles is ten different kinds of fun and you'll see there's lots of people at the range with them.

Get a Mosan or Mauser. I can still find surplus for about $5.00 or so for 20. 303 surplus is getting hard to find. Nothing bad about it though.

I have an Enfield Nr1 Mk III (SMLE) and it is a lot

of fun to shoot. I have never seen steel tipped or cased ammo for it.
