Is Orosco Ridge Closed?

On 2/28/10, I went to the US Forest Service website and it says that Orosco Ridge is closed. I heard somewhere (unconfirmed) that the closure is because the road washed out recently, and not that they have closed the area to shooting. Does anyone have any intel on this?

They closed it during the last storm because the road was washed out. Given the rain this weekend, I'm not surprised they closed it again. They have not permanently closed the area to shooting. I was up in Ramona on Friday the 12th and it was open then. You can call the palomar ranger station at 760-788-0250. They can give you an idea when it will be open again.

it usually stays closed about a week ro two after the rains depending on the weather. if it gets sunny all week and dries it up it could open up soon.

Personally I would not make the trek knowing the road is not stable even if it was open. That drive up can be sketchy.

I would just keep checking the website to see when it is open.

The gate is probably locked when it is closed, you can always call the rangers office tomorrow for more info.

lol as soon as it is able to be open for shooting after the wet weather. they are going to close it again for fire danger....

They close it at random. Last time I went up there the website said it was open but when I got there the gate was locked. Call before heading up there because it seems like they randomly close it.

Technically the gate used to always be locked, you had to get a combo.
