Looking at my first handgun purchase

I am tossing around a few guns for my first handgun purchase. I am thinking about either a Sig or Glock. My father has a couple Glocks but I dont like the way the Glock rubs my middle finger on the trigger guard. I have shot the Sig P226 and like the feel and how it fits my hands. Why are the P220, P226 and the P229 more then the P250 Compact? Is there something wrong with the P250?

    Thank you for your advice.

In response to your gun choice I'd say skip on the glock, it looks like it can be purchased with cereal box tops.
Have you given any thought to maybe a smith and wesson m&p ?

Do not under any circumstances use a sanding drum on your dremel tool and make the glock more comfortable for yourself, the world might end.

rkt88edmo I see where your coming from, but why are the prices between the guns Glock/Sig so drastic?

Clayface, I have never had a chance to shot or check out that gun.

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but I don't know anything about sig pricing.

i owned both glock and SIG BB guns as a kid and they heavily influenced my first pistol purchase.

i thought the SIG was a little "bulky" compared to the glock. The SIG also averages a couple hundred dollars more than the glock.

glock is more compact, easier to break down, virtually gauranteed to work.

i ended up going with a Glock, if it doesnt fit your hand try another model, i bought the g27 compact and i love the way it feels. it almost contours perfectly to my hand.

not bashing the sig, i really love the SIG p220 and p226 and hopefuly in the future will add one to my collection.

The polymer framed guns are less expensive to produce than the metal framed guns. The Sig P250 is a polymer framed gun = less expensive and the remainder of the Sig line are metal frames. I hope that clarifies your question.

The Sig is a quality firearm just like the Glock is. The Sig though has a couple of qualities based on basic design and workmanship.

The Sig P22x series (220, 225, 226, 228, 229) are all hard anodized aluminum frames with a stainless or folded steel slide. The Sigs are also Double Action to Single Action, and in my opinion, has one of the best duty level DA/SA triggers for a stock mainstream pistol. Also, I believe that their ergonomics are some of the best for these types of DA/SA pistols. They are well regarded, fielded by multiple military forces, reliable, and very accurate.

That is not to say that Glocks are no many of those as well. In the Glock, you are getting a much simpler gun and system. They are probably more reliable/rugged, but it's the difference between 99.99% reliable and 99.88% reliable. They are a striker system, and are dead simple to maintenance.

The P250 is Sig's 2nd attempt into the polymer gun style. It is not considered part of their classic line, and is polymer framed with a steel slide. It also is a serialized action/trigger group, as opposed to a serialized frame, you can change the slides, calibers, and frames of this gun to fit your hand. My understanding is that the concept is great, but the implementation and deployment are rather poor from Sig.

I prefer Sigs and the classic DA/SA system, with the "nicer" single action trigger from a classic Sig. Try to find a used P220, P226, P228, or P229 for a value purchase.

I have both and am comfortable shooting both. However, people new to shooting tended to like my sig more since the grip felt more comfortable to them. Go shoot both and then decided what you want.

If you're trying to save cash, you can find good deals on used glocks/sigs in the classified section.
