    WTF

I went to a local gun shop to consign a hangun and was told that even if I pick it up within 30 days I would have to re-DROS it. I thought that if it does not sell and you pick it back up within 30 days no DROS is required. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

    Thanks

No I beleive they are right. They have to transfer it in their books. ihad that happen to my Savage. the FFL who took it in put it as a trade in his books to accept it when I was actually there to have some work done to it. I ended up getting it back and he wanted me to pay the DROS. Fat chance of that. I made him pay it for his mistake

When you put it on consignment it goes into his inventory. If you pick it up it has to be DROSed back to you. Here is the funny part, it is a private transfer with you listed as the buyer and the seller.

The key word is 30 days. You can loan a firearm up to 30 days, after that magic day that gun must be transferred. So if you don't want to get hit with DROS fee's better get back there on day 29

I put a Hangun on consignment at a gun store and it had to be put in there name to be able to sell it.

Yes you do have to pick it up within the 30 days or have it reDROS'd. I never have to worry about this, since I always pick up my guns the second the shop opens on the first day I'm allowed to!

This is not California law but is Federal law. With all firearms placed on consignment with a dealer or pawned with a pawnbroker, the person redeeming the firearm must go through a new background check. There is no 30 day window. If you place the firearm on consignment and want back the next day, you need a new background check. The only reason you don't have to do that when getting a firearm back from a gunsmith is that Federal law gives a specific exemption for that transaction.

Once your place your firearm on consignment, than the said firearm enters into the dealer's logbook of the said dealer. In this case, you will have to DROS it back under your name if you want to have it return under your possession. There is no 30 day "grace period".

On the other hand, shovel88ci is not correct. There is a "consignment/pawn return" selection in DROS system. Dealer should not use private party transfer to return consignment gun.

I think OP's question is regarding the gun he/she put on consignment, not a gun that he/she purchased.
