    New to board, saying hi.

Hi guys. I am a SoCal beach native but moved away to TX and other states for military training stuff/work.

I am catching up on CA laws and going over threads. Here in TX with my C&R FFL and without, I just buy whatever I want and shoot whatever I want. No police care, the locals love guns and there is no firearm paranoia or phobia of DOJ or the threat of persecution over my shoulder.

That being said, I still vote by absentee in CA (an almost pointless attempt against the Democrats) and might move back to CA/AZ/NV to be closer to the parents and family.
As such I love shooting, have quite a few firearms and am trying to interpret all the CA chaos, bills and new AR stuff you guys are talking about and buying to be legal.

Its quite a task to read 22+page threads on new stuff and try to understand it all but I am hanging in there.

First off, what is OLL when referring to ARs?

I am also trying to figure out what grandfather clauses there are for military and what new AR receviers I CAN bring back to CA?

    Thanks guys,
    Remy

        Oll......?????

Ya, it means Off List Lower for AR's There have been a number of companies outside of California who are now building lower receivers. California's law names the brands that are banned. These OLL are not on the list of banned receivers So you can be living in Cal. and buy them. Now are you ready for this???? In order to build an AR the traditional way it must have a fixed 10 rd or less Magazine There have been some real smart guys who have come up with ways to have removable mags on your OLL. Monsterman Grip and the U-15 stock are examples that have been designed and marketed by these fellows. You can find pictures of them both on the rifle forum. Personally I like the U-15. It feels good to me and when you hold it it's like holding an M1A, no pistol grip. So look them up and have a look
        I won't be wronged
        I won't be insulted
And I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.....John Wayne

I have been looking at the bullet mag release thread. If I install the bullet mag release....

can I bring in from TX my full up evil Bushmaster XM-15? (I saw it IS named on the list of banned guns)

And could I bring in a newly home-made AR off of a MEGA arms lower receiver with evil features as long as it has the bullet mag release (since MEGA is not on the OLL list of CA DOJ guns banned).

Thanks guys, I forget its 2Hrs different in CA so you are all still up and awake enjoying CA weather

I'm not able to talk about the OLL's as I'm a slow bolt guy, but welcome aboard.

What do you do down there in Texas?

I love Bolts as well, am stocking up on x54 and 8mm, 303 is hard to get these days. Got lotsa Megas from 2004 AWBsunset celebration.
I imagine even for bolt actions its hard to find a place to shoot over 100yds in SoCal anymore. Even ranges in TX are always moving further out of town due to rapid building.

I fly C-130Hs. Its quite an adventure. Right now I am teaching Pilot Training for aviators to be until I go back to Herks, its scary at times but rewarding and gives me a break from going to the desert for so long so many years.

I also have quite a bit of shooters in the Squadron so all we do is talk guns at work and since its a military workplace, nobody calls the cops when I say I have an arsenal at home, they just gloat and say they have more.

.so 6172, I know you're not a lawyer but the overall idea is if I put a 10rd mag, and the bullet release, my MEGA rifle with bayo lug and 4p stock is good to go and does not require any sort of registration in CA?

Yes, to both of your statements, Im not a lawyer and by the law your good to go with the setup using a BB(bullet button) and any evil feature but NFA.

I have plenty of time on C130s, and that 20+ hours was enough. I was a CH46E crew member(1000+) and they only have enough gas for a few hours not like you guys that stay aloft forever. There are a few guys on CalGuns who worked on, flew military AC that you will fit right in.

                    VMGR-152 here
I was First Mech on KC-130F's out of Futema and sub unit one in DaNang back in 70-71.

Went trail crew on 130 from El Toro to Oceana to Azores to Rota to Egypt and back same route with a stop at Tinker AFB (got cold sandwiches in white boxes) on the same C-130.

Then westpac'ed trail crew 11 F-18's from Beaufort South Carolina to El Toro to K'Bay to Wake Island to Iwakuni.

                    I can still smell'em.

                    Love dem birds.

Only flew on those 'crowd pleasers' a couplea times, prefer fixed wings. Those props on top ain't natural

Well it looks good for my ARs then, but I imagine while I am in CA I will retire them and get real good on bolt actions.

I grew up in El Toro so I always saw the Raiders there at airshows. Yes USAF does still have white lunch boxes with goodies, as I recall Navy and Marine bases make the aircrews go forage for their own food, Air Force guys land and are constantly surprised there is no golf cart and lunch waiting for them on the tarmac.

The C-130 school house guys are all Vietnam era flyers so they tell crazy stories, the herks we have on the flightline with patched bullet holes back up the crazy stories.
