Becareful when someone knocks on your door

Hit home a little bit as I used to live across the same street as these elderly folks.
How sick and twisted do you have to be to assault a 50's old woman.

    Just becareful, everyone.

I have struggled with the concept of carrying a holstered weapon inside my own home (Note: My wife and her elderly parents are also occupants) because it would be a little over the top for them.

Any more of this C*** and it will be a done deal.

Terrible story. I don't open the door UNLESS I'm armed.

Better yet, why not have a peep hole? If I don't recognize them, I don't open the door. Hard concept?

I do my best to do the same thing. If I'm not with a gun-in-hand, I've got at least a knife at the ready. It doesn't help that my front door has no peep thing so I can't really see who it is before I open it. You think the landlord would get mad if I installed one?

I wouldn't open the door period.

Yeah I need to get more consistent with my carry at home. Sometimes I am and sometimes I don't. I always have a knife on me though. I always check the peep hole first before opening. Course the two barking dogs behind the security screen probably make people think twice.

The woman is the worst as she doesn't have the habit of checking the peep hole first before opening the door.

Even with a peep hole it's still a good idea to be careful. You may lookout and not see anything but a small child or nobody at all. Someone could be crouched close and low to the door so they are not seen. Field of vision in some of those peep holes is terrible.

I always make sure the door gets answered even when it's someone I don't know. I am just cautious about it. Last thing I want is someone casing my house, ringing the door bell to see if someone is home and then not getting an answer so they decide to try to break in.

I have a security gate that is always locked so when I open the door to talk to someone I am still seperated from them.

People generally step back anyways as my dog are always barking and jumping at the gate when I answer the door

In all honesty I waffle between finding you disgusting and pitying you that your life is so void of anything substantial that you measure yourself by 'conquests' and who you know that can get you in where.

                      Cover your peeper though.

Holy crap, that's terrible. I guess the other alternative is to have an off angle video camera (the tiny pinhole ones that aren't apparent) with a tiny display at home. With IR cameras, it would even solve the night issue. Of course, this is a couple of hundred bucks easy and not ideal for all people.

Prevention would be preferable to confrontation, no?

                          Peep hole = good
Camera = better (you don't have to be at the door)

I have a metal security screen door so that I can open the wooden door and still be seperated from danger.

There was just a home invasion here in Fresno a few days ago, two guys forced entry and got the people cornered in one room; then one held them at gunpoint while the other looted the house. A-holes.
