If you plan to use a gun for self / home defense you also better make sure you have it registered in your name. I can only imagine the attorneys in a court case having a field day saying "and you then shot him with an UNREGISTERED gun?" Thats all a jury needs to hear when you are in court.

sorry for the inconvenience so that means you can cash and carry a remington 870? They were made in 1951 so that makes them more than 50 years old right?

Only one that was made more than 50 years ago (1959 or older). A new one currently made would need to be drosed.

There is no 'registration' of long guns in CA

The specific gun has to be more than 50 years old. It does not matter that the model has been available for more than 50 years, the specific gun you are buying has to be more than 50 years old. There are C&R shotguns out there just look for them. The for sale forums here at CGN is a good place to start.

I'm not talking about tactical training just basic safety and shooting classes for a low price? I am looking for a pump shotgun a mossberg 500 or a remington 870 for home defense and eventually either an sks or an m1a socom for emergencies or a WTSHTF type scenario. Can those be bought "cash and carry" from a private party?
it seems to me that you want to purchase guns without the government knowing, yet you are discussing it in a public on-line forum. there will be documentation when you take a gun safety class. if you go to an idoor range , you have to sign in an let them keep your CDL while you shoot. Unless of course you get a membership at a shooting range but that would entail filling out paperwork and providing documentation. When you go to Wal-mart to buy ammo they have video cameras all over the place. Did I mention all the off duty cops that will be at the range when you are there or the numerous law enforcement officers that post here on this website. You have already raised so many red flags. In essence you are screaming at the top of your lungs in a crowded public place that you want to buy a gun and you do not want the MAN to find out.

I DID not say I want to buy a gun without the government knowing. I was just asking is it a way for them to confiscate guns in the future like they did in Katrina. Like I said before I do not have a criminal background and have nothing to hide

I live with in walking distance at local gun shops but recently I read an article by James Rawles of survivor blog where he talks about making not buying firearms w/ paper trails because it might be a way for the government to see who bought a gun and eventually confiscate the gun for no apparent reason. I do not have a criminal background and have nothing to hide for a background check but the way James Rawles is talking about the government confiscating your guns for no reason has me worried. So do you guys think it is okay to buy my first gun from a gun store? Here is the part where James Rawles talks about not buying guns from gun shops http://www.survivalblog.com/emerging_threats/
Well it seems to me the only way the government could confiscate your gun would be if they knew you owned one and the only way to stop that from happening would for them not to know that you did. So in essence you are trying to purchase a gun without the government knowing.

"So again, your best alternative is to make only private party gun purchases, without an FFL in the loop". It seems to me he is advocating something illegal and or almost impossible. I apologize if I came across harsh. Of course you could be a GOVERNMENT AGENT trying to set someone up here to sell you a gun illegally.

Hurricanes don't occur in CA...you have nothing to worry about. Just go buy as many guns as you can until the year 2022. That's when the aliens with AKs will be hunting us.

Start out with your training class at the Burbank Firing Line next Saturday. Become a member and try out all their guns. Go buy your shotgun, Rem 700 bolt action, AR15, 1911s and Glocks in that order.

Done. Welcome to the fight for your 2nd A rights in Kalifornistan.

Nah I am not a government agent lol just a newbie college kid who is considering buying his first gun because he is concerned about crime rates and people rioting because of the bad economy in California, and i mentioned Rawles because he operates the largest blog on family preparedness to prepare for disaster type scenarios

Now there is some sound advice. Did they take away the guns from the public after Katrina ? Who took them ? How did they take them when they could not even get to people to rescue them ? Were the guns taken away from every citizen in Louisana or just New Orleans and the 9th ward?

You don't need to own a gun to take a basic handgun course. Look up a dude named Greg Block, he teaches at Burro Canyon off Azusa at the 210 fwy.
