    Micro stamping?

    Hi everyone,
My wife and I have heard the government and/or gun manufacturers are going to start putting micro stamps on hammers of guns so they can track ownership from spent casings.
Is there any truth to this?
    Just wondering.....

    Interesting version of the story.

Short answer: in California, NO - there are requirements in the law which have not been met, and probably cannot be met.

No attempts at microstamping exist at the federal level.

(and search for it here all as one word - 'microstamping' - because that was the title of the bill that put it into the Penal Code. See link.)

Don't they want to put it on firing pins, not hammers? Either way it is not going to work

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

NRA SUBMITS LETTER IN OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED MICROSTAMPING REGULATIONS (by C D Michel, published Monday, 15 February 2010 14:25)

On February 17, 2010, the Department of Justice will be closing its public comment period concerning the proposed action to adopt regulations implementing AB 1471, which requires that, commencing January 1, 2010, all semiautomatic pistols not listed on the roster of handguns approved for direct sale by retailer firearm dealers found at Penal code section 12131 be "designed and equipped" with microstamping technology, "provided that the Department of Justice certifies that the technology used to create the imprint is available to more than one manufacturer unencumbered by any patent restrictions."

In simple terms, microstamping is a process whereby a semiautomatic firearm leaves a unique imprint on the casing of discharged ammunition. The...
