San Jose shooting ranges

Hey guys, I'm living down in San Jose now and I want to go shooting this weekend. I want to shoot some rifles so Reed's is out of the question. I know there are a couple around but I figured I would see which you guys prefer.

I usually go to Los Altos Rod and Gun. Not exactly the best range staff, but the tin can range is fun and I like being outdoors.

I've been to this one a couple times, I really like it. Reed's is too expensive anyway.

For rifle, I go to Field Sports Park (south SJ, near Morgan Hill, just east of 101).

For shotgun, I go to Coyote Valley Sporting Clays. Same exit as above, off 101, but west of the freeway, tucked back in a small valley near the MH / SJ border.

I have yet to visit Los Altos Rod & Gun Club. One of these days, I'll head over there.

Metcalf for shotguns/rifles/pistols. 101 S and Bailey exit, back accross the freeway and follow the road.

Coyote Valley Sporting Clays shotgun only. 101s and Bailey exit, make right and take left at Santa Teresa look for sign on right.

Los Altos Rod and Gun, Shotguns/rifles/pistols. Highway 9 west. South on Highway 35 look for sign on right.

If you feel like driving (2 hours) and no rules there's Panoche Hills and Tumey Hills.

It looks like field sports park is the closest and the reviews look decent. I think I'll check that place out.

I looked on the map and it looks like Los Altos rod and gun has a pretty crazy road to get there. Is it a fun drive?

If you feel like driving (2 hours) and no rules there's Panoche Hills and Tumey Hills.

oooooo... So that would be a good to go place for tannerite? Where do I find these places?

If you think driving Hwy 17 and then up Bear Creek Rd. is fun...

Very winding and narrow SR 35. A one time friend drove me up there last fall and he scared the bejeebers out of me by speeding through the turns.
I haven't gone shooting with him since, after the range master got on the loudspeaker and warned him twice to slow the heck down on the range's road.

It's a nice drive up. I'm a flatlander from Illinois so mountain roads always give me the willy's..but I keep going.

I've never had any problem with the staff....they were usually pretty nice and helpful.

It's a great drive if you like doing apex turns and there's no one in your way.

Bear in mind that Panoche and Tumey Hills are both closed for fire season. They won't reopen until Oct 15th or so.

My fav in SJ is Sunnyvale Rod and Gun. Great guys there! The range is a bit small but they got steel plates which are a hoot to shoot!
