Kimber CDP II Pls Rate / Feedback

I've decided to go with another Kimber after thinking about going high end or hunting for a Dan Wesson. I like the Kimber CDP II line.

    I am interested in the:

    Kimber CDP II Pro

    Kimber CDP II Compact

I just realized these have an alluminum frame. I am sure this is to make the gun light weight.....how will this light frame deal with a high round count?

Can anyone Provide feedback or some kind of rating on this gun. I appreciate your comments.

    Thanks.

If the purpose of the gun you are purchasing is for carrying, then I would say purchase a Kimber Pro or Compact CDP II. The Compact CDP II is easier to conceal, due to the 4.75" height of the grip, versus the 5.25" height of the grip. The Kimber CDP II Series are very accurate and light guns for 1911s.

My CDPII Pro is my go to .45. I've shot well over 25K through it. I can shoot it better than my Custom, go figure?

I like mine. The alloy frame helps keep the weight down. You really notice every ounce when you carry.

I have the Ultra CDP II and carry it ina Milt Sparks IWB holster and MS belt. (OOS CCW). This little barrel shoots almost as accurate as my HK Fullsize and has little more recoil than my Kimber Warrior II.

In other words, I love it, for the price, and I would not worry about wear. It's a tight frame/slide to begin with, and mine is still very gradually breaking in/loosening up after over 4000 rounds.

I know about 10 other people that have this gun and swear by it.

I wish I had the same experiences as others, unfortunately mine is still not right. I would love to love this firarm, as it is extremely accurate, comfortable, and light. But... mine has had problems since magazine one, and two trips back to Kimber, have slightly improved the relibility of mine.

Now I will say it is very accurate.

I followed the break in procedure to the "T". I tried 5 different brands of magazines (multiples of each brand), and as many different brands of Factory (Not reload) ammunition. What has happened with mine is 1 + FTF per magazine. 1 st trip back to Kimber, it came back and was fine for ~ 200 rounds before the problems re-surfaced. For myself Kimber warranty is very difficult. They will send a call tag to UPS, and can not tell you when they will pick it up (sometime in the next 3 days). Now my place of work has a no firearms policy, so this option is out for me,and I can not afford to take 3 days off work, waiting for UPS. They said they could not accept a direct shipped firearm for waranty work. Also, after multiple requests for Kimber to notify prior to returning the firearm, I came home from work one night having missed the delivery. Second time around, the same thing except the failures seem to have improved to one every 2 nd or 3rd magazine.

By the way this firearm is amazingly accurate.

I really really want this to work for me, but so far, I can not trust this piece for a CCW piece. For me, the difficulty of warranty shipping with Kimber has soured me to purchasing another Kimber, not the firearm itself as much, as others have had Kimbers with zero problems, or very few problems. My next step is an independent 1911 smith.

              10 others? Is that all?

              LOL

I have Ultra, Compact and Pro. (also owned the custom but sold it (never a problem with it but was not going to carry it) to go for a more traditional full size 1911 (non alloy).

I love them all. Between ultra and compact. Wow hard to say. I shoot just about as good with both. You save a little weight with the Ultra. But both conceal just as good as the barrel is hidden down your pants with both of them. Frame is the same. (shorter than Pro which does help concealment more than the barrel length)

So really you can't go wrong with either.

The CDP family is top notch so take the one that fits your needs the best and never look back (after about 400 break in rounds).

I really love my CDPII full size. I shoot it very accurately.

+1 to U2, I only use Wilsons in my 1911s.
