    1911 grip question

I am getting a 1911A1 clone.....I want it to have the WWII look.

Which is best in accomplishing my goal....walnut or rosewood diamond grips?

    Thank you for your opinion.

IMO walnut is probably going to give it the more authentic look, but rosewood would be the better choice for a newer pistol. If the gun is new, get some rosewood grips.. if its used (and looks the part) look around parts bins for a nice used up pair of walnut grips. Thats what I'd do anyway hah. Good luck and don't forget to post pictures!

Well yes its an A1 style, it does definately have the style, I more just meant if its used and sorta beat up, rather than still sparkling from the gun case

I think a nice pair of rosewood grips would look nice. I have a picture of an old gun with some nice grips I'll post it as soon as I can get my stupid netbook to load photobucket.

          Edit:

These were Rosewood double diamond with silver medallions rather than gold. I had some guy who was running an eBay shop make them for me, but you get the idea.

I think I'll go with the Rosewood. Thanks!

All over. You can find them in parts bins at gun shows, in shops and all over the internet. Then you can also have some made to whatever spec you want via online makers. Ebay is a great place to find grips for some reason.. back when I built 1911s that was the best place to find wood grips. If you're looking for older looking walnut grips though, gun show parts bins are where its at. New makers tend to "fancy them up" a bit, since walnut is a rather plain looking wood. You can always go straight to the source too and ordcer walnut panels and cut them to fit. They generally come 80%, so its not hard to finish them to fit your gun. Pretty much just route the holes for the grip screw bushings and then cut for ambi if necessary. There are a lot of options out there. Then for those looking for more modern grips, check out Larry Davidson's grips (Also known as Monky Grips) for a great selection of G10s and Micarta etc.

These certainly are not diamond grips...
