Take a Delrin cutting board, cut it into1 inch wide strips and railroad track the safe. Its very effective and the safe will slide no problem on the Delrin.

http://escalera.com/stairclimbing/index.htm also in the last 3-5 weeks here on calguns, someone had a thread where a rental company had this stairclimber. I have a 1200lb model if anyone in the bay area needs...

There is a huge difference between 400 and 820. And I don't know what refers you have moved but I've never seen one even close to 400lbs.

moving safes over 600lbs with stairs involved, you might be asking for trouble. I would have at least one guy for every 200 lbs of safe.

Edit: assuming each guy can dead lift 200+ lbs

If you really don't want to move it yourself, call Turners and ask for the name of the company they refer to. I used them when I bought from Bass Pro in Rancho Cucamonga, and it was really fairly cheap. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the company. Turners will gladly give you their name and number.

I paid like $800 bucks to move an $800 safe up a flight of stairs. The mover made a big production of it with a winch and pullies and etc.

Then I realized that if I pop the door off, the weight is about split in half between the door and "box". Next time I'm getting a heavy duty dolly and some friends. Really, if I have to move it from one room to the other, I just walk it across the carpet...

PS. I'm not responsible for accidents...

I have a smaller frigidaire double wide refrigerator and the tag says the weight is 350Lbs.
Going up and down 3 stairs is not a big deal for 3 people to do with an appliance dolly..Trust me I have some friends that sell safes and have helped delivery them before. It's not a big deal until the safe being moved weights in at 1200Lbs and above.

That number is misleading. 40 lbs. psf is the average minimum live load (anything you put on the floor, furniture, appliances...etc) of an entire floor.
So if you have a 100 sf. floor, the the entire floor is engineered to hold a minimum total of 4000 lbs. total
If it was actually 40 lbs. psf I would be falling through a lot of floors

Also you have to remember while getting friends to help is nice what happens if one of your friends or you get really hurt moving it. Not only missed work but you could also screw yourself up pretty bad. if you are moving that big a safe get a professional. Last thing you want is 800 pounds falling on someone. say 600$ to pay a pro to move it vs a death or a maiming yeah ill pay the 600$

your planning on putting an 820 pound safe with a footprint of maybe 6sq feet on an upper level ? Then how much guns and ammo are you going to put in there. You better make sure the floor will support it all.

Edit: NM I read it wrong only 3 steps up and down You should be good with id say 3 buddies

                            Know any Samoa's

Do you know any Samoa's I watched two lift and carry a 1500lb pizza oven in from a flatbed trailer over 75ft. Maybe one could wear it like a backpack?

I'm an engineer and I have a hard time believing that one. Think about yourself standing with your feet shoulder length apart. It's going to be just about 1 foot square (1 square foot). Now think about your weight, my weight is about 200. My guess, after structural safety factors are included, that most floors are rated for at least 2x my weight... 400 lbs per square foot.

Coming from this, technically you are right, the design is that the floor can handle 40 lbs, but it's also 40 lbs uniform from wall to wall, not including the safety factor. My guess in any given spot, the floor can probably sustain a 300-400 lb load without question for years on end. A 800 lb safe without a structural member supporting it is probably not a wise decision.
