Is this FUD? Trigger lock question

So i'm fairly new to gun ownership but I pride myself on adhering thoroughly to regulation and laws related to firearms (as asinine as some may be)

My question is this, my brother in law and I were going to goto an indoor range ( i was visiting him and other inlaws out in Lancaster Ca ) and he asked if I had an trigger lock. I said : no not on me.

He said that it was a law to keep trigger locks on all firearms when not in use. This is the fist i had heard about it, i am familiar with the trigger lock / safe affidavit when purchasing a firearm but as far as i am aware, safe storage laws simply relate to whether or not a child can/does gain unauthorized access to a firearm

but nothing on mandatory trigger locks.

He was not talking about transportation - which I have a locking case for my pistol and other firearms that meet locking case transportation requirements ( i actually just have nice hard cases for everything since there are a ton of school zones around here - statisfying the 1000yard rule )

so is the "must be stored with a trigger lock" FUD or not?> I cant find the law anywhere if it isn't FUD. thanks in advance!

FUD. You can't find it because it's not there.

Plus it's 1000 feet, not yards.

            Thats would be insane.

I was told this when I did a handgun in a ppt. I was leaving the store and the guy who did the ppt said to me "just don't get pulled over without your cable lock on the gun." I said "yeah I'm putting it in the trunk I.E. locked container..." I got the same answer again with "well it's your decision."

It's not law that you have to have your firearm locked, but it may be range policy if that's where your source got his information. Illogical, true, but stranger things have happened. Call ahead or have the lock with you if there's a chance that's the case.

The range rule thing makes sense. There's a local indoor range in my area that requires all guns to have the slide locked back and a cable lock through the ejection port/mag well. One reason I've never gone there (other than that an indoor range doesn't really interest me the way an outdoor one does): I don't have cases for my handguns that allow for the slide to be locked back.

Complete FUD. You will not find it in the every growing and modified enormous dangerous weapons statute for California because it simple does not exist, yet.

And the cable lock when transporting is also FUD. Not a bad idea for beginners to get that feeling of "OMG...I am this close to being a criminal and my life taken from me" off of them. Then chuck the cable soon a newbie gets comfortable with transporting.
