FTF vs PTP vs regular transfer

I searched, but I'm not finding the answer.

What is the difference between a Face to Face transfer, or Private person to Private person transfer or regular transfer?

Basically, I have a gun, my friend has a gun and we want to trade. One's a pistol, the other's a rifle. Whats the easiest, cheapest way to do this? We are both local...

please reply, we wanted to do the transfer tomorrow. TIA
either start being proactive or leave the state. The longer you're here, and waiting for bills to pass, the less rights you will have.

FTF vs PTP vs regular transfer

Can anybody explain the difference to me? Myself and another local guy want to trade a handgun for a rifle, what's the easiest\cheapest way to do this?

Also, if we go into an FFL tomorrow to do the transfer, does that mean the FFL must hold both guns the ten days? Would it be okay if we just let each other 'borrow' each other's guns and do the transfer after a while to make sure we're both satisfied? (I know it would be a bit risky if the other guy wanted to use my gun in a crime, but I've known him for years and have good trust)

Go to your closest dealer and do the paperwork... The only difference is for the thandgun transfer you will need a HSC card. A face to face transfer is a private party transfer. A regular transfer would be from a FFL dealers inventory...

THe cost should be $36.00, if I remember correctly....

do they keep both guns for the ten days, or do you keep them until the 10 days are up then trade?

Both guns are retained by the dealer for 10-days

thanks. do you know if anything would be illegal to trade or let each other borrow the other gun for a few days, then do the transfer? (thinking of a try before buy situation)

If it's your friend, why don't you go shooting together?

we will, but I wanted to take his on a trip this weekend, meeting my brothers in nevada. It seems like a bad idea, but I just wanted to know if it's legal to borrow somebody else's gun for a weekend? we will be doing the transfer, but if we do it now I can't take the gun this weekend (10 day wait). my brothers shoot pistols, and I'd rather have a pistol there than my rifle.

I don't know whats legal anymore as far as lending/borrowing guns....

try WWW.AG.CA.GOV maybe you can find it in the firearms section there...

If you can't fiind it, call them, they don't bite....

                    FTF is a lot cheaper.

FFL must hold the handguns for ten days.

FTF: For long guns over 50 years old, you can meet a guy somewhere, pay him cash, and walk away.

PPT: For all long guns under 50 years old and all handguns you have to meet at an FFL and go through almost the equivalent of purchasing from the FFL. With a trade, you'll both have to DROS and wait 10 days.

2 threads are better than one! Never mind, that was supposed to be heads.

if we were not going to exchange guns, say we just wanted to borrow each others for a week (going to a 3 gun meet, need the pistol) would it be legally ok for us to just let each other borrow the guns? Or is this illegal for some reason?
