Why do FFLs hate doing transfers?

There's a bit more to it than just standing there watching, then entering info. You have to nitpick the hell out of the 4473 to ensure that everything is filled out correctly. You have to ensure that addresses match up correctly, and that proper documentation is noted in the proper areas. You have to ensure the DRoS is filled out correctly as well. Yes, it's not difficult, but it can be time consuming if someone isn't familiar with the process, or if their breath smells worse than 200lbs of feces left out in the Florida swamps in the middle of summer. You've also got safe space considerations as well as ensuring the gun doesn't get damaged in any way during storage, which can happen. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE to do transfers for people, $10 is $10, and the majority of people are easy going and fun to deal with. It's that tiny fraction of people that are so over the top gonzo that make the frustration kick in. -
What else is there to do besides have one employee stand over you filling out the form and entering it on the DROS website?Leave a comment:

They don't hate transfers...they just hate you. J/K.
Just find another FFL dealer with a better deal and better attitude.Leave a comment:

There is more than $10 in labor involved plus 10 days or more for storage. Not everyone picks up on the 10th day. Bottom line it's a money loser for most FFLs.Leave a comment:

probably because they are lazy about doing paperwork. and PPTs they only make $10 and then minus the taxes later.Leave a comment:

Why do FFLs hate doing transfers?
What's the big deal with FFLs doing transfers- PPTs and Out of states? I've filled out the yellow form 50+ times and just about every time I was done in about 10 minutes max.
If my cut is after fees is $10+ and it takes 10 minutes to do it if I'm taking my time; ignoring overhead, isn't that an income of about $50+ an hour? I'd figure that as a gunshop, I'd want to do nothing but transfers considering how many people there are in the PRK wanting to do them. Why waste the time dealing with tire kickers and overhead/holding costs if simple transfers probably have a higher ROI?
I'd think that it would be looked at like Soda in a McDonalds as opposed to a loss leader like a Black Friday sale.Tags: None
