Jaw bone plinking

I assume you mean Jawbone canyon?
If so- I have before without any problems. Just make sure you go far enough (i.e. away from civilization & the road) and you're good.
There's a place called "Schmitt (sp?) Tunnel" which is a really neato tunnel that goes back into the side of a mountain about 100 feet. It makes a great place to do some plinking (and judging from the spent shells all over the place I'm not alone).

The Burrow Schmidt tunnel is on the other side of the freeway and goes all the way thru the mountain,I've walked the whole thing several times.I assume you mean Jawbone canyon?

You and I must be thinking of a different tunnel- because the one I know of doesn't go all the way through... Or at least it didn't several years ago (last time I was there!)
In any case I'm not too familiar with the area (my dad lives in that area; I do not). So take my judgement with a grain of salt...

I have shoot out their before just making sure it was still ok to. I had heard somewhere that it was no longer allowed, but I figuerd it was just BS.
When we go riding out there we usally shoot the last day anyways when its the least crowed on Sunday.Comment

The Burrow Schmidt tunnel does go about a quarter mile through the mountain. I've walked it and Burrow got a bit tired towards the end I still have the lumps on my head to prove it. It is on the east side of the 14 and about 17 miles or so from Jawbone Canyon.I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.
When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.Comment

Make sure you are not in Red Rock Canyon State Park! Shoot there by mistake and you will lose your guns and possibly go to jail! Get a map at the Jawbone ranger station and read it carefully as the state park and BLM land are near one another and line in the sand is not well marked in places.
When in doubt ask one of the rangers. Good luck!"Life Is Hard. It's Harder When You're Stupid"-John Wayne!
"Liberalism Is A Mental Disorder"-Michael Savage!
"The Object of Life Is Not To Be On The Side Of The Majority, But To Escape Finding Oneself In The Ranks Of The Insane"-Marcus Aurelius!
"Dr. Thomas Sowell Is A National Treasure"-Big Jake!

This is true, I know because I lost 3 guns there a long time ago. Make sure you know the EXACT boundaries of that park because there are lot dirt roads that cross into the park and there are no signs letting you know you are now in a state park.Make sure you are not in Red Rock Canyon State Park! The burro Schmidt tunnel has a cabin and trailer near the west opening of the tunnel. Up until a few years ago Tonie Seger lived there as the caretaker. She passed away in 2004 if I remember right. After she passed the BLM took over and the camp was vandalized and all the historic artifacts stolen or destroyed. here is the website for tunnel. We go up there a couple times a year to show the new AF members some of the local history. You and I must be thinking of a different tunnel- because the one I know of doesn't go all the way through... As far a shooting in the area there is a canyon where you drive over and under the aquaduct that is closed to shooting right now. They are putting in electric towers down the canyon. A no shooting sign is posted as soon as you turn off the 14.Last edited by Deamer; 02-09-2010, 7:06 PM.Comment

What a sad ending to the BurroSchmidt saga.I'm glad I took both of My kids when Toni Seger was alive and they both got to meet Her.
