    guns at the bed side?

just wanted to see what u guys keepe ur bed side guns in? i have a small safe with the finger groves that holsts my 45. i have 3 small kids in the house so that gun stays in the small safe and the rest in the big safe. i notice when i hear something in the night i jump up and just go look without the pistol. kind of defeats the reason of having a gun there in the first place. of course if i heard glass break or something i would open the safe. but for the little what was that noises i just go. we live in a small place so if some one was in with out me hearing the first break in there would not be a lot of time. the safe is ok but just want something a little faster. u guys have any ideas?
    thanks

When my kids got past crawling stage, I stashed my guns in the garage, locked up, but access was slow, especially at night.

Eventually, I got the GunVault (the one with the fingergrooves) because it's quick and easy to use when you're sleepy, and it's a few minimal motions to open it and get the gun out. I keep my main house gun in it, along with a spare mag, with one in the chamber and the hammer down. I also keep a tactical flashlight next to the box.

Whenever I hear something I want to check out, I grab both the gun and the flashlight, because it's a perfect opportunity to practice getting it while you're sleepy, and I soon realized I needed to practice fumbled combo recovery.

I cruise the house with the gun at high ready, finger off the trigger of course, and check things out with the flashlight. I don't use a gun-mounted light because I'd have to point the gun at what I wanted to ID.

When my kids were old enough to train on gun handling safety, I still kept it locked up, because of their friends.

I practice this routine regularly, and at this point, I've got the fast access thing and the fumbled combo thing down, as well as a good procedure for sweeping the house.

        Practice, practice, practice.

no guns at the bed side. it scares the ladies away
          jk.
IMO, I think it's unsafe and (ever so slightly) paranoid. [just opinion, plz don't flame]
touch-pad-entry safe is 3ft away with all I need.

I finally got the chance to look at an additional solution in person.
The Gunvault has always caught my eye and with a new pistol purchase I recently decided I'd move away from my plastic gun case to the vault. Got the GV2000 Deluxe, being shipped from the East Coast.
