I would have changed brands on the 2nd boo-boo. Good luck on these ones though.

Oh man, dejavu all over again..
I've had 2 pairs of Peltor 6s and they both went to crap within a month. I will not buy them again.
I use the Howard Leights now.

Funny that you guys mention your problems with the 6P. I also have lost one speaker in two different 6P headsets due to battery leakage. This has prompted me to go with the 7P which uses the one 9V batter in an easy accesible exterior pocket. So far I am happy with the 7s. There was a thread/poll on this on calguns just recently.

Glad you finally got a pair that works properly. A word of advice if you plan to keep them, I highly recommend taking the batteries out each time they are not in use. It is a PITA, but if left in, the batteries tend to burst. And since the batteries are not contained in their own compartment they leak battery acid all over the internals potentially ruining the circuit board.

This very thing has happened to my Peltors on 3 occasions (you'd figure I would learn my lesson after the 1st time). I have also witnessed this happen to 2 of my friends in their respective sets. So take the batteries out when you are done with your shooting session and you should be fine.

Aside from the battery bursting issue, I got a few good years of service out of them before I upgraded to a pair of MSA Sordins.

My wife and I both use these HL's and really like them. They are lightweight, comfortable and the acitve sound amplification/reduction is awesome. I've never tried Peltor's though...

The Tac-6 model has a design flaw that Peltor flat-out admits exists, but wont fix.

I bought a pair from Cabela's when I was living in AZ. It stopped working on my second range trip (left ear kept cutting out). I read the online Cabela's reviews and it looks like just about everyone that buys these has the same problem. I called Peltor and they actually told me it was a design flaw, and recommended that instead of returning them for another pair at Cabela's, that I actually try another model!

I've heard really good things about Peltor otherwise, so I upgraded to the TacPro model. Best hearing protection I've ever used.

Another tip that may make your life easier...I got tired of struggling with pinching, pulling, and clawing at the ear seals to get them off of the main housing every time I wanted to remove/reinsert the batteries. The ear seals can be clamped in pretty tight and I was always afraid of either breaking the housing or tearing the seals while trying the separate them.

Next time you have them apart and are ready to put the ear seals back on, you can sandwich a couple inches of ribbon between the housing and the ear seals when clamping them back together. That way when you are done shooting, all you have to do is give the ribbon a tug and the ear seals will pop right off giving you easy access to remove the batteries. Good luck!

Should have got Howard Leight or MSA Sordin the first time.

I don't know why people insist on Peltors, they have a long history of spotty QC, and the clicking sounds they make are irritating. I rarely hear about people having problems with HLs or MSAs.
