    Polytec m14 trade for a AR15?

Thinking of trading my M14 with about 1000 rounds of ammo bunch of rebuild mags witha buddy for a AR15 with a like amount of rebuild mags and a about 2000 rounds of ammo.
Think its a fair enough trade. he wants a M1a/M14 and I sort of want a AR. Just not 100% sure I want to trade if its not fair to both parties
I dont want any hard feelings either from him or me.

keep the m1a. I tell my shooting buddies that the only way they will get mine is from my cold dead hands........and I usually realize that they also shoot too just right after I say that.

Way more AR's than M1A's, so keep it

I have a Polytech as well. I was toying with the idea of trading it, but I really enjoy shooting it as well as my Springfield. I think you should keep the Polytech, you might regret it later.

Have you looked into the issues with the Polytec's having soft metal receivers? You may want to see about that before you shoot it a bunch.

I believe you are thinking of the bolt. Poly receivers are better than springfield ones. You can actually put a scope mount on them without sending it to a gunsmith. Some Polytec's had soft bolts, some didn't. Most people just replace the bolt with a GI one or current production one if they feel the need.

I think the bolts are supposed to be soft. Ive shot mine and so far I havent had any problems. I am gonna look for some go no go guages and have a gunsmith look at it and ill look for a bolt for a decent price.
The receivers are supposed to be pretty good. I read a bunch before I got the poly 14 and i read the early models were supposed to be ther problematic ones.
Im gonna keep it cause these polys are not that readily available

There was something about the receivers way back but it was fixed easily by getting a heat treatment. I think SEI and King Gunworks were doing them back then. They may still.
