Used Gun Purchase Question: HELP HELP HELP

Hi, I'm trying to square away a deal with someone selling their used handgun in CA.

I am purchasing the gun and it is on the CA DOJ list, but the owner is not a FFL dealer.
We cannot meet face to face to transfer the gun so we need to get it shipped to my FFL dealer.

Is there going to be an issue with this? How does the process work on the seller/FFL dealer's end?
My FFL dealer was telling me that they only do transfers from FFL dealers (original owner of the gun).

How can I make this purchase work?

No issue if your FFL dealer has no problem accepting a rostered handgun via a private party. Private party must also agree to include a copy of their CA DL along with the handgun. The seller could also find an FFL to have the handgun shipped to your FFL, but it's going to cost them. Find another FFL if possible.

You need to find an FFL that will accept incoming firearms from non-FFL's (private parties.) There are FFL's out there that will do it, but I guess yours won't. You will also be subject to whatever fees they want to charge for accepting the transfer and DROS (usually between $70-$100) it is NOT considered a PPT.

My FFL dealer will only accept FFL to FFL transfers. They were saying that this avoids the cases where the gun is a stolen item.

Does anyone know of a gun shop that accepts private party to FFL shipping in Norcal or the Bay area?

        Thanks

So the seller can just send the gun through the mail?

Yep, I believe they have to send it overnight if it's a handgun and I think it has to be through UPS... but lemme poke around a little and find out for sure, or someone else (69Mach1!) will be along shortly with the proper info...

I'm in the Fairfield (Norcal) and Bay area so if anyone's got any suggestions. Let me know.

I'm going through the FFL list right now and calling.

Just called Castro Valley and Diablo Valley shops and they only accept shipments from FFL dealers.

Both said that it's the "law" and there's too much liability in it. Guy at Castro valley said that he doesn't know of one shop of the bay area that does it.

Just found a guy in Sacramento that does it.

                      Don't know if it's the same guy?^

Says he charges $35 + $25. Sounds good to me.

$60 total is a very good deal for that type of transfer. Whoever told you it's the law that it must be from FFL to FFL is incorrect. It's totally within the law to ship from private party to FFL. Since it's a handgun the seller will have to ship via FedEx or UPS.

Yeah, I told the dealer that I heard different on Calguns.net and he then said "yeah, but we just don't do that anymore" Their scared.

You might give CENTER MASS SHOOTING RANGE in Vacaville.
