Shooting range in Santa Cruz area?

Anybody know of any ranges in Santa Cruz? I know there's Markley's in Watsonville, but I'm hoping for one closer in to the heart of fuzzy liberalism.

We used to go down to the isolated beaches, a couple of decades ago, but I'm assuming that would bring a fleet of black helicopters and an "Al-Quaida cell uncovered in Santa Cruz!" headline...

Not that I know of. You're prob gonna have to go 'over the hump' to Los Altos Rod & Gun - which is on 35, about 2 mi south of Hwy 9 & Hwy 35 intersection.

Definitely check out Laguna Seca. That is where I used to go when I lived in SC. It's a bit of a drive but a very cool range. They have (or at least they had) a big steel gong plate hanging about 300 yards out. Any one of the shooting benches can go for it.

Los Altos would be the other range. I don't know of any others.

You sure you're not thinking about Beach Flats?

There's all kinds of shooting going on there...

I'm not in Santa Cruz, but a friend is, and he may be buying a gun, so we were looking to see if there's somewhere he can try it without coming over the hill.

Looks like it'll be Reed's Range.

Los Altos... Bill mentions is GREAT! it's somewhat of a mid-point between Santa Cruz & San Jose + it's outdoors w/ a great scenery just don't drive over 2mph once your on site

for us SJ'ers... it's just outside of Saratoga up hwy 9 > follow the bikers to the HotDog stand & make a left your buddy can take hwy 9 and would make a right at the hotdog stand... it'll take him a bit longer, but he doesn't have as much traffic. It also makes for a nice Sat/Sun drive.

There is a great range in the Scott's Valley area that is members only. Reasonable to join if I recall.

Los Altos range was pretty cool, it's pretty big. But every time I go there they yell at me to drive slower. I was going at 5mph (no exageration) and they kept screaming at me to slow down. If I went any slower I'd stall. Not sure what that was about.

Don't know about everyone else, but my typical range sessions run about 3 to 4 hours.

At LARG it's $12.00/day. A session at Laguna Seca would cost me $20 to $26 bucks!

..and aren't they closed on race days?
That is all true, but for those of us that live in the area, it would be more expensive driving elsewhere with the price of gas nowadays, not to mention the time lost driving.
