I did a PPT today, selling a couple .22 pistols to a friend of my mother's.
One of the pistols was in a wood presentation case with a box of ammo that came with the gun when it was new, probably from the early sixties. The gun was unloaded, as were the mags and the case was locked. When the guy behind the counter opened the case he grabbed the box of ammo, held it up above his head and exclaimed loudly, "Ok, THIS? Illegal!" It was crowded in the store and the raised voice was obviously for the benefit of the 10 or so other customers within shouting distance.
I replied, "No it's not. The pistol is unloaded and so are both mags. There's no law against transporting ammo in the same container."
He again quite loudly responded "Well, not specifically, but, the spirit of the law? You get pulled over, you're going to jail!"
Luckily this clown got caught up releasing another pistol to another customer and another employee jumped in to help us. If I had to deal with him for the next 45 minutes during the PPT I might have lost my patience, so to speak. I'll never visit that particular shop ever again.
Does every shop have one of these guys? Is every FFL required to hire at least one total yambag? What's the deal?
