    Purchasing From an Out-of-State Relative?

    Hi All,

My dad and I were talking on the phone and he mentioned that he was thinking of selling one of his S&W m66's, which I may be interested in. He lives in NV and so cannot give it to me as a gift, thank you CADOJ. How would someone go about receiving this pistol in CA legally, or is it even possible? My dad is NOT an FFL holder.

    Thank you for your help!

Do a search for intrafamilial transfer. Your dad can transfer it to you in that way whether the handgun is on the roster or not.

Yes, but you need to be sure that your FFL is aware of the roster exemption for intrafamilial transfers.
I believe the proper DROS checkbox is the "Olympic" option.

Just one of many doing a search using "intrafamilial" that has good info for you:

Actually he can gift it to you via the IntraFamilial Transfer. By the way the reason he just can't hand it to you, has nothing to do with the CADOJ, it's Federal law, that requires a transfer of a firearm between residents of different States to go through an FFL.
I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

          and

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck".

Thank you muchly for the information and the link, very helpful. And Vin496 thank you for clearing up where the regs come from, LOL, I guess I should lighten up on the CADOJ in this case. Unfortunate that all of the DROS and transfer fees have to be paid when passing a firearm between living family members but at least it can be done.

            Thanks!
