I used to train people sight in their AR's at 50 yards, POA/POI. That will give you the same POA/POI at about 225 yards. And, anything in between will be close enough within couple of inches. I think it is the simplest way. I do it on my AR's also.

EOtech isn't made for 100yds, it's made for across the room, down the hall, or across the backyard. That's why the reticle is so big, no need for precision sighting.

Need more range? Get an ACOG.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. If spot on at 100, you should be high at 50 and low at 200.

when you get really close, say 7 yards you will have to compensate for the height difference between your sight axis and your bore axis. So you would put your sight a couple inches above your target.

You will really just have to play with YOUR rifle and YOUR ammo. Get used to where it shoots.

Somebody will post the ballistic trajectory curve here soon. That one's helpful.

I have to disagree with this. If zero is at a 100 at 50 you will be low and at 200 you will be high.. this is all due to bore axis.. If at a 100 both bore and sight lines cross, at 50 they have not met yet and at 200 the round has crossed the 100 and is still on a climb above the line of sight. From my understanding it is at about 300 yards that these lines will cross again. This is all depending on how high the optic is set above the bore line.

EDIT: tried to find the trajectory chart that shows this with scope mounted ? above bore line, but I can't. Will keep looking... This is why you mount a scope or optic as close to bore line as possible..

Thats not what they're made for, its designed for quick target acquisition at close range i.e. room clearing.

I zero my AR 1" low at 25 yrds, it gives you a 25-200 yrd POI with only 2" difference in bullet trajectory. FWY, I shoot spot on with my Eotech up to 200 yrds no problem. I say practice, practice practice with Irons first! Breathing, trigger control, shooting positions (NO bench shooting!). Once you can group shots at 100 yrds then you are ready for an optic.

when I had my Aimpoint, I had it zeroed at 50 yrds. aiming at the middle of the steel at ASR I would still hit 200yrd steel no problem.

It was accurate enough. I believe my groups were about 2" at 100 yrds

looks low, bullet is still traveling up at that point to hit the 100 yard zero, i stand corrected. (depending on distance between sight and bore axis)

Zero at 50yds. Zero irons first! Then optic!
