    Frontsight and Gunsight

I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences at either of these academies. They are both very expensive...are they worth it? Is one better than the other?

There is a thread on here about how you can attend a 4 day defensive handgun class for a $150 donation to the sponsor.

I have been twice, and had a great time.

I went to Gunsight in the 1980's, and Frontsight in the 90's.

Gunsight had a much different approach to the material, was much more expensive, but I believe that the Gunsight training/teaching method was more professional.

In the class I attended there were more professional shooters than civilians.

Frontsight is geared more to civilian shooters (in the introductory classes at least) and is a great "bang for the buck" bargin.

Get one of the 4 day pistol certificates on the cheap, a case of ammo and you're getting the best deal in professional training that can be had.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

I've been to both. I won't return to Frontsight, but will return to Gunsite.

IMHO Gunsight is MUCH better training.

depending on your skillset, you could also look at Thunder Ranch or Bill Rogers

Went to Frontsight for the free uzi class they used to offer. I had a great time but the price to join was very high. I f you have the disposible income go for it. But it was just too pricey for me.

Did not attend either, but heard a few things.

Gunsite is what Jeff Cooper started. There reputation seems to be good. They seem to be a bit expensive, but I have not heard negative comments about them.

Frontsight is what Chuck Taylor and Ignatius Piazza started, but Chuck Taylor has left and is ran by Ignatius Piazza. They seem to have decent instruction, but there were some problems with other aspects of the business.

You indicated that you live in Apple Valley. If so, there are two schools I can recommend in southern California which is a lot closer than both.

First is Firearms Training Associates in Corona/Norco area. It is lead by Bill Murphy, who also is an instuctor at Gunsite, IIRC.

Another I can recommend is International Tactical Training Seminar (ITTS) lead by Scott Reitz. Scott Reitz has an extensive background(LAPD SWAT) and has good reputation. Classes are at Angeles Shooting range.
