I just took the HSC test today. I should have gotten 100%, but I marked one answer wrong, even though I knew what the right answer was. Guess I wasn't paying enough attention. I didn't study for it.

I asked the person that gave me the test what was the #1 wrong answer. It's the "What's the safest direction to point a loaded gun?" Most people that get it wrong mark "down".

Should have made this a public poll... I'd like to hear from the 5 that failed more than once... how old are they and do they now own a handgun?
        Seriously... it's common sense.

Did not need it to buy my C&R handguns (C&R and COE), but did need it for the Dracos - not that they are really pistols.

Took it cold and aced it...
Read enough threads here and this stuff will be pounded into your head.

I just did it, and got 100%, it is very easy and people should only be given one chance in their life to take it,lol if they dont pass it the first time they should not be able to buy a gun.

Got 100% after reading the booklet once, it was such common sense I almost regret reading the booklet.

Wife hasn't read the guide yet.
I just went through the self-tests with her.

She missed three... one of them she got right but was confused on whether it was C or D (I was reading them to her, she would have gotten it if the test were in front of her).
One was confusion on "semiautomatic" and "revolver" terminology... again, probably would have gotten it on an actual written test.

The other one, I wouldn't get...

Is that even on the test? I know it is on the self test, but according to the booklet, your guns should be unloaded, locked up, and put into it's case, and into a safe, and cemented shut, with steel welded over, and dropped into the ocean, as all responsible gun owners guns are.

                    * and the answer to that question should be: This question is for the child to answer, I'm exempt! *

I was at a store in Redondo last weekend and I just saw some guy that failed his HSC... Its pretty sad.

I got one question wrong on mine, something related to felony and the amount of time it takes to become eligible again. Needless to say I dont worry about that kind of stuff.

The only question that I wasn't 100% sure of was "How old must you be to purchase a handgun". I honestly wasn't sure if it was 18 or 21 (I've never bought a handgun before, and didn't study for the test.) My gut instinct was right.

I over thought a few questions. "That can't be right! It's to simple!" Yadda...

How could anyone without SERIOUS learning disabilities fail that test???

The one I took had TWO law-related questions, and all the others were common-sense that no one in their right mind could ever miss (well, maybe if you didn't speak English). I missed one question, one of the law-related ones, and it was because I didn't realize you had to be 21 to buy a handgun (I was 23 when I got my first one, so it never occurred to me).

When I passed, I asked if anyone could ever fail, since it's so easy. Clerk said:

"I've only ever failed ONE person. He was from Laos and didn't speak a lick of English. He had a translator present, and I told him that the translator couldn't help with the test, and that if he didn't read English at all that he'd fail. The translator explained that to the guy, but he opted to take the test anyways. He guessed on every question, and he must have the worst luck in the world because he didn't guess right on even one!"

...If you fail that test, I do not want you to own a firearm. I'm sorry, I support the 2A, but if you can't pass a COMMON-SENSE and ridiculously easy test... maybe they should take your driver's license, children, etc as well! (OK I'm probably kidding about this last paragraph. Probably.)

I just took the test today. I passed. I read the manual just to familiarize myself with everything since the world of guns is new to me.

Just like my friends said, it's pretty much a common sense test.
