    stolen firearm

Is there a way to see if a firearm was stolen before purchasing it or is it checked during the transfer process with the FFL? When doing a PPT for an off listed handgun, when all the data is entered by the FFL, will he be able to know if the gun was stolen? My fear is that I buy a gun, go through the process of getting it transferred and then after the 10 days I'm unable to pick it up because it was stolen. I lose my money and the gun.

I was offered a rifle that seemed shady. I called my local Sheriff dispatch (not 911, the other number) and asked. They have a list in case a deputy runs a number. Turns out the rifle was hot, but the guy never got back to me.

For PPT, problem is you pay for the gun, it gets held for the required 10 days at which time it is checked if stolen. if it is stolen, you/ve already paid for it and you don't get the gun.

it's actually titled "Receiving Stolen Property" and it's only a crime if you knowingly received it or had good reason to believe it was stolen...which of course wouldn't apply as you wouldn't have it anymore

If you're unsure you could always try getting the serial number through super tricky spy manuevers.....like handling it and remembering the number......like i said, super tricky spy manuevers.....and then call the sheriff and ask them if the gun was reported stolen or not.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

It only lists stolen firearms from those who go to the website and manually enter the information. It's not networked to AFS nor NCIC.
