Took my NV CCW class this week.

I took it at the Gun Store in Vegas. Tony Dee is a great instructor and and had a lot of stories to share. When it came tile to qualify, I was a little scared because I hadn't been to the range in about 6 months, a lot out of practice. I ended up scoring 346 out of 360.

I was the only Californian there, and he kept calling us the PRK.

I went over to the Fingerprint Bureau, and Tony was right. Lots of eye candy there as that's where the strippers get registered.

For some members here, can you walk through the process up until signing your paperwork off to Metro.

Is it still $100 for 1/day at the Gun Store? I believe American Shooters is $100 and their class is every Saturday.

    Thanks

So this is a 1-day process? Take the class, go to the station, and head home?

More details on the process would be great, I need an excuse to go to Vegas for a few days.

You sir suck, all I saw was a few people getting their gaming cards and some felons registering

I took my class from Las Vegas shooting academy in october. 1 day class that went 8 hours, also covered Utah for $115. We went over applicable laws, carry gear and techniques, how not to be an idiot, don't go stupid places with stupid people, etc. We then went to the range to qualify with our weapons. My class fees covered 3 guns, you can register 100 if you want but the teachers start charging per gun at some point. YOu must qualify with each gun you want to shoot. (Ie a Glock 19, Glock 26, etc.) It is not by serial number so if you own 30 Glock 19s and you qualify on 1 you can carry any or all of them. The exception is revolvers, you could qualify on a .22 revolver and then carry a S&W .500.

You can look up the ridiculously easy course of fire, but if you own a handgun and are on this site and you fail the qual sell your guns because you are to scary to own them.

About a month later I went to 5800 Cameron street, the fingerprint bureau. DON'T TAKE GUNS!! I got my number from the first window, went over my app at the second window, got prints, then picture, then signed, sat down while the looked everything over 1 last time and was told have a nice day. Total time 58 minutes. Got my permit in the mail 18 days later and that included the Thanksgiving holiday.

          Tips:
Be nice, be patient, have a money order ready for the $100.25 as they don't take cash and there is no store close, be patient, and when you see a sign that says no cell phones put it away. Only time I saw anyone not have a smile what when some guy would not get off of his. I was playing a game on mine and while they saw me no one seemed to care.

          Hope that helps.

More like a two day because the class needs to be 8 hours by statue I think, so once class is over they may be closed.
If you can find a Sunday class and go early Monday morning and be finished by 9:30 and head home.

              Okay... or two Saturday trips.

No, most state offices are closed Saturday. Best bet is Saturday class, Monday fingerprinting.

I've had a NV CFP (issued by the LVMPD) for about 7 years now (gone through two renewals).

Plan on two days. One day for the class and one day (plan on 1-2 hours) to turn in your packet/get printed/photographed.

You take a class during the week, spend the night and then turn in your packet before leaving town.

Some counties are faster in processing the permit application than others.
On average, Clark County is the slowest in issuing a permit.

Sorry it took so long to get back to y'all.

I took the Wed class at the Gun Store. It was 75 bucks for the class, which included one gun to qualify. I qualified with my XD-40. It might behoove you to pre qual, but I got into town too late to do it.

I went down to 8550 Cameron around 11 AM. I would try to get there before noon, as folks come in on their lunch. Honestly, I was in and out in 25 min. More folks started to show up after me. Everyone down there was really nice.

I already have my Utah permit, but we go to LV about 3-4 times a year, so I thought it prudent to get the NV since they changed the NV law last year.

It kind of sucks that I can't carry in my own state (LA County resident), and I thought about getting my CA CCW, but we are moving to TX this year and I just don't see a point to it.

How is the move going to impact the UT and NV permits? Are you going to have to go through the process again, or just notify them of the address change?

'Course I guess when you get your Texas permit, the Utah permit won't be such a big deal unless you need Washington.

When you move, you just notify NV & UT of your new address. No problem, not like CA.

I will have to live there 6 months before I can get the TX permit, so the UT and NV will come in handy.
