    Whatever happened to.....?

Whatever happened to those AR lowers that had the blocked magazine well?? And what are they called? Are they really cheap now that there are other options (ie monsterman, BB, etc).

Thanks. Looking for one for a 308 project.

You mean the Fab10 with a sealed magwell and interior box mag? If you're looking for a lower for a single shot upper, you can buy a lower without the magwell specifically for that purpose.

It'll be a CNC piece I believe, not sure of the manufacturer, but I have seen them before.

DPMS makes a single shot lower. Seems like they were about $230.00 and are used if you are building a .50 DTC bolt gun.

Might you be referring to the old Bushmaster Carbon-15s? I remember there were some of those around with sealed magwells and permanent box mag in them.

I remember seeing a Stag with a fixed magazine that took 10round stripper clips. The vendor at the Cow Palace said with a few tools, you could remove the fixed magazine and return the gun to normal.

My son has a Bushmaster Carbon 15. Got it just before the big push of OLL.

There's a Bushmaster Carbon 15 for sale at Turners right now. I saw it today when someone posted a link to the Turner's firearms sales page. I forget which turners it was but I'm sure it's still for sale.

Not sure what exactly you are planning to do, but .308 wont fit in a standard AR lower.

                    Seeing as how he's looking for a sealed-magwell version, I'm guessing that he's building a bolt-action single-load upper.

OP, check out the for sale section for a FAB10. I've been thinking about picking one up just for historical reasons.

At the same time, with the price of lowers these days, it might make more sense to get a normal lower anyways. JD's are $119 at Riflegear, for example. You might not be able to find a FAB10 cheaper than that.

There are also some purpose-built single-shot lowers out there that are aimed at the .50cal crowd that have no magwell at all. Safety-harbor firearms sells one. Those might be out of your price-range though.

Remember, a standard lower WOULD NOT require a bullet button or anything like that on it with a bolt-action upper attached, because it's still not a semi-automatic centerfire firearm. If you're building a .308 semi-auto with a magwell attached to the upper, then the lower still wouldn't require any kind of magazine locking device.
