Moving Firearms to Hawaii to an Army Base

I recently joined the army and my first duty station is Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. I am hearing mixed things about taking my firearms with me. Does anyone know how the process works for taking them with me? I am married and will be living in on post housing, at least at first.

I'm not sure the current deal, but when I was in I had to have an off-post buddy hold my guns. This maybe a post-specific thing.

Every thread I have read about this indicates there

is a rule that private arms brought on base must be stored with the armory and checked in and out when you want to use them. Undeclared arms will result in punishment and after Ft Hood, it is not likely to get better.
