AK/AR vs Semi-Auto

In debates with some who are positive that "assault weapons" are the most lethal thing ever conceived by man, I would like to show an image of another semi-auto rifle that is far less evil looking. I expect the person to say the "pretty" rifle is OK, at which time I can prove they are identical in firepower. What semi-autos are there that are conventional in appearance or at least look less evil?

Or better yet show em a comparison of cartridges common in bolt guns and put em next to a .223 or .308. I actually did that with a neighbor of mine and she was shocked that there was more power from the hunting rifle she used back in her younger days than from an "assault weapon".

I'd say a Saiga with a 10 (or even 5) round magazine looks pretty innocuous - even more so if you throw some wood furniture on it...

The added benefit of using a Saiga as an example is the "BAM - that's essentially an AK, sucka!" factor...

Well, the M1A is often used as sniper rifle and it doesn't look that evil.

There's a good video by Officer Leroy Pyle where he changes the wood stock of a Mini-14 to a black synthetic stock that looks "evil". You may want to show your person this video.

A saiga in a caliber of your choice is the best. It does not look so evil despite it being an actual AK and they are cheap.
