    All AP & 50BMG ammo is illegal in Cali?

    That's what the guy behind the counter told me today. This is news to me???

          .50BMG ammo is not banned. rifle AP ammo is not banned. AP-Incindiary and API-Tracer ammo is banned in CA.

                      I had heard (read) that AP ammo was banned by the BATF for civilian use/possosseion, but M855 was the excepetion. Does any have specific information?

                        That is BS. And m855 isn't armor piercing it's just a steel penetrator.

                              in CA, possession of handgun AP ammo is regulated.

                              Federally, the manufacture and sale of handgun AP ammo is regulated.

                              the feds exempted green-tip SS109/M855 from being considered handgun AP ammo. The thought is that black tip M995 would be considered handgun AP ammo.
